Description

My favourite small bird, always puts a smile on my face when I see them or hear their presence in the trees. At just 13–15 cm in length, including its (7–9 cm tail). The flit about in family flocks all winter in the hedgerows, never still in the hunt for food. Now they are starting to pair up for spring, as they breed quite early. There nest is the most amazing thing, an upright elongated dome with a small entrance hole. Constructed from moss and spider's webs! Then lined with hundreds of soft feathers, finally disguised with a coating of lichens. I have only seen them in Blackthorn bushes myself. They like any dense shrub according to the books though. They have a curious upper eyelid colour if you look close.
