Joanne climbed the stairs to her room. It had been a long day. She had stopped on the way home for dinner. She hadn’t felt like cooking. Although she missed him, she was kind of glad it wasn’t a night Nim would scry her. All she wanted was a bath and bed, not necessarily in that order either. She turned on the lights to her room and froze. There was a box sitting on her desk. Then, she saw the paper with it. It looked like the parchment Nim drew on. She went and looked at it. It was folded and sealed with wax, like from an old movie. On the outside, was written, -to Joanne from Nimitinas- in calligraphy. The word from had been crossed out, and someone had written love in its place. It was simple print, so she guessed it was Ann or Andy who had done that. She smiled and broke the seal. -Dear Joanne, I first must apologize for giving you a fright. I’m sure finding something on your desk was a bit unsettling, thinking someone had been in your room. I assure you, I have not been there. I would have scried you to let you know, but getting this to you will take all of our strength. In the box is a charm. Keep it with you. It will allow you to scry me one time. Save it for an emergency. I am concerned that the man who called you may be an enemy, though there is also the possibility it may be a friend. I’m sorry that I cannot tell you more. Please be careful. If he threatens you, scry me, and I will come. Break the pendant to activate it. I will be quite drained after sending this to you so I may be a day or two late scrying you. The young ones all said to say ‘hi.’ They want to know when you’re coming to Baj-tisk. They don’t know how far away you are. We thought it was best to keep that information as limited as possible, not just from them but from everybody. Andy, Ann, Sapphire, and Pt’this all say ‘hi’ too. It hung on a cord a similar color to the hair tie he had given her. She put it around her neck. There was also a piece of parchment in the box. It was that first picture he had drawn of her, the one he had said was bad. Joanne had a feeling he had included it so she would know the box really was from him though she didn’t know why she felt that way.
