Description

Wikipedia says: During the 17th and 18th centuries, fishing, water transportation and trade were essential to everyday life in Cape Forchu. During the 19th century, Yarmouth Harbour became a major port of registry for sailing ships and by the late 19th century, it was the second largest port of registry in Canada. Shipwrecks were common along the shoreline and it was recommended by Colonel Robert Morse in 1874 that a chain of lighthouses should be built along the shores of Nova Scotia hence the construction of the Cape Forchu Lighthouse in 1840. This light station was replaced in 1962 with this ‘apple core’ designed 75 foot concrete tower. Since 2000, the original fresnel lens, used at the lighthouse, are located at the Yarmouth County Museum. Another scanned slide, taken from the Prince of Fundy ferry, sailing from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on May 26, 1972. I have not chosen the software needed to clean up the noisy background and that will have to wait until we return to south Florida. Please have patience with me. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

I like the look of the older lighthouses; this one looks very modern in design but goes well with the cliff face. Nice capture Dana!

So proud as he stands there, Dana. I love the bricks too, as the roof of that house on the left. Take it easy dear friend. Not be rushing things. :)

Imposing looking structure, just Big Brother's eye in the sky ! It's RED, I bet it spins faster to warn sea going vessels twice as fast as it did before the upgrade ! ~Cheers~
