Description

This one was a labor of love for me. In early days, lighthouse keepers weren't allowed to have family members stay with them in the lighthouse while on duty. Although wives and children were often only a few hundred yards away from their husband and father, but the distance often seemed like miles. Many families used creative methods of signaling like semaphore flags and lanterns to communicate. The inspiration for this picture comes from two sources: the Longships Lighthouse at Land's End, Cornwall, England; and the photo " Phares Dan La Tempete" by Jean Guichard. Lighthouse and stairs modeled by me in Rhino. Trees are mine. Shoreline material by Frankallen from 3dCommune. Island material also by Frankallen and modified by me. Very minor post work, mainly to darken shoreline. Waves, sky and clouds pure Bryce (sky is a lattice); (thx, Pinhead... that tut was perfect, and perfectly timed.)

This is very very nice! I have Jean Guichard's "Phares Dans La Temptete - La Jument" on my office wall and receive frequent compliments about it. The motion displayed is incredible. Your water has (though not as violent) a very similar feeling of movement. Thanks for your work!

IDied... sorry you feel that way. As the narrative points out, often times the actual distance between the keeper's job in the tower and the family's place in the home was a small distance. However, the adverse locations and elements they faced daily made the distance seem far greater than it actually was. By the way, I was curious to see if there were any examples of your work posted in the galleries that I might use to learn better composition. I must have not searched correctly, since I couldn't find any....
