Nice, big strong horses, my friend. I used to work in Clydesdale District, now part of South Lanarkshire in Scotland, in the 1980s, and saw a few of these horses on farms around Lanark. I am sure there are still some near my daughter's house out there. When I was a boy, in Northern Ireland, my mother's cousin had one on his hill farm, and used it to pull the cart when he went to collect the turf ( peat ) from the mountain side, and cut logs from the old forest. As a very young boy, I was chased by a runaway milk cart horse, taking refuge in an outside toilet / outhouse underneath the tenement's rear stone stairs. I had the horse's bit for years as a keepsake. Regards, John.
