Description

No, I am not dead yet I just haven't been as active as I usually am, I am going to live to 100 or die trying. Taken with my trusty webcam, and a 8" telescope on evening of Monday 14th July, from a deck, somewhere in Allentown. Jupiter had just passed opposition (when the Sun, the Earth and my home planet, Jupiter are all in a straight line). The large picture shows Jupiter, with its Great Red Spot Thingy, its moon Ganymede (to the left) and its moon Io (on the face of Jupiter to the right with its shadow, the big black dot). The little photos show Jupiter (at the times stated in Universal Time Co-ordinated) over a 1.5 hour period, showing Jupiter rotating (see the Spot rotate to the left) and Io moving into transition (little dot to the right) and making a BIG SHADOW as it does. For you earthlings and other carbon-based-lifeforms, UTC is the same as Greenwich Mean Time (not Greenwich Pleasant Time).
