Description

On 9/11 I spent some time taking pics of the New York skyline in West New York, NJ with Frank. I decided to do some people watching through my lens. Something I never really did before. I think this picture best describes the somber tone some of us still feel to this day. Which is why I think the B&W works so well. Franks lesson du jour was to capture an odd number of people but adding that I should find something with red in the lens to capture the eye. Well...Frank took one look and said where's the red. It was right above her knee. This picture (even in color)is my favorite out of some 100+ pics. The only draw back in this picture was a jacket in the foreground. It made it too busy. And after attending a class it offset the rule of thirds. My daughter Katie showed me how to remove it. Still, something was missing. I played with the filters until it struck me. This photo is meant to be in B&W! When I was finished getting just the way I wanted it, I couldn't help but think. "If this was actual B&W film the depth and contrast would be absolutely stunning" Even Katie was amazed at the difference when she saw it in B&W. I do hope all of you have a wonderful weekend. I will be catching up on my commenting this weekend. Love to you all ~Michelle~

At first to the left of her body I thought it was her other arm (maybe like she was holding something up to herperhaps a cell phone)) t's only my eyes now as I see it's only part of the tree stump:lol need a eye test I guess; I love B & W and I think it's a great photo and color, being as on that day all was smeak and gray as far as color the red was blood and fire ,who wants to see that all the time not me: So your choice is wonderful love it all!SUPER!!!!!!!!~ hugs ))) to you and yours: My company wil be here soon and for three weeks we should talk before ok??

It's hard to tell where the RED is, assuming your referring to the color red. I agree it's a nice picture of someone sitting on a lawn. Personally, photo's bore me unless there is something unique in them. Like that giraffe licking his nose. Or a shot of a tigers mouth, from the inside looking out. That will capture my attention real fast..lol. I do get tired of photographers trying to quantify a photo and judging it on some generally accepted criteria for what makes for a good photo. A friend of mine knows a famous photographer that gets paid for his photos. They are all pics of people with their heads cut off. I mean the shot is from the nose down. Very annoying images actually. I hate when people do that when taking a pic of me. And here this guy is getting paid to do exactly that. Ok, it's a gimmick, makes him famous, makes him money, got him a gallery. So best advice is don't take lessons from a Professional, unless you want to be a clone. Make your shots your own. When someone can recognize you as the photographer, just by seeing your photography work only. That's when you become great. Hope all's going well Michelle. Bravo and hugs from Dave :^)
