If it's a war they want...
It's my birthday, so I'm gonna indulge in a bit of soapbox rhetoric---something that's been increasingly torquing my ass and I do believe I've finally reached my breaking point...
This past year there has been an UNPRECEDENTED assault on women’s rights and women’s healthcare. Funding to essential healthcare services has been cut, laws have been passed that will require women to have medically unnecessary procedures while birth control has become a political football.
Bobby Franklin—who last year proposed making rape and domestic violence "victims" into "accusers"—has introduced a 10-page bill that would criminalize miscarriages and make abortion in Georgia completely illegal. Both miscarriages and abortions would be potentially punishable by death: any "prenatal murder" in the words of the bill, including "human involvement" in a miscarriage, would be a felony and carry a penalty of life in prison or death.
And these are just examples. The list GOES ON and ON and ON...
Women's right to choose any kind of birth control is also under assault.
Then you look at another 'facet' of the issue. People like Rush Limbaugh attacked a private individual in a nationwide forum that testified in front of Congress, calling her names I won't even repeat here. He then proceeds to tell her to post videos on YouTube because he thought for some twisted reason that "HE" was going to be charged for her birth control, when he couldn't have been further from the truth. She was discussing PRIVATE PAID INSURANCE. Not something coming out of anyone else's pocket. And remember, this was someone's daughter he verbally attacked nationwide.
In Colorado we acquit athletes of rape as a matter of course. We have a man running for the presidency of the US that says that a pregnancy resulting from rape is "A gift from God, no matter how broken." and they should just make the best of it.
I believe it's an individual's choice and a highly personal one at that. NO one should have the right to tell anyone else what to do with the rest of their lives or what they should have to tolerate. A woman's body is hers, it should ultimately be her choice.
In the year 2012 I am ASHAMED of my country and the way it has decided to drag women kicking and screaming back to the Stone Age.
So all the conservatives out there that agree with what's going on? I put you on notice...
We didn't start this war, but OK---we're there. There's an old saying---
"Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" Now ratchet that up to a few million women and I bet it gets downright epic.
"If I had wanted these old farts in my lady parts, I'd have called it a clown car and invited them all in. But SINCE I DIDN'T, they need to step the f--- off." (my quote, speaking of congress and senate)

OK, I think I'm done now. :D

Although I agree with the point that a woman's body is her's and should be free to do with it as she wants, but to say that each individual should be able to choose what is right for them and not another is anarachy. If one person feels that it's their right to have your car, even though you paid for it, then that's "their right" and you should just give it to them because they want it... Laws are there to protect everyone, although some or most may not agree with them or no matter how stupid or idiotic the law is (300 lb women are not allowed to ride a horse in red polka dot shorts in CA.) they are still there... I do enjoy your art but if you open your site to rhetoric, don't get upset again when someone says something about your post. Going to the comment about the "human involvement" in miscarriage, there are many men that get girls pregnant that don't want the responsibility of supporting that child or being tied to that woman for the next 18 years that beat the crap out of the woman to force a miscarriage, here in Texas that is a capital offense, the law maybe different in GA, so he maybe trying to protect the women who want the child and charge the attacker with homicide and not just family violence. As for each person having the right to have their voice heard... what about the baby who is growing in the womb of the woman who uses abortion as a means of birth control, who speaks for them, certainly not the mother that doesn't want them, if they don't want to take care of that child, let someone who will adopt them... (spoken as one who has adopted a child) Do I think it's black and white, not really, because there are cases of rape and incest where the woman may not have willingly engaged in the act that got her pregnant. Although, I don't agree with ending the baby's life, but I also don't think that the woman should have to endure a 9 month reminder of the incident either. At the risk of making this too long I'll stop there... again I enjoy your art and this image is no different. Thank you for submitting it for us to view.
Well, I'm a man, but I'll tell you what.... I'll buy you the bullets! It's long past time to clean out the stupidity and greed that has held sway for far too long. Well said, and a GREAT render! My T.N.A. Gals are right behind her. And HAPPY BIRTHDAY, by the way!
I, for one, agree with what you said... I completely disagree with werewolf in the above commentary. For one thing your car comparison is off base, the car wasn't created by a rape, nor for that matter, was it conceived by two under-aged cars having a go at it one drunken night without birth control. Only misguided fools would want to turn the clock backward on this issue. I don't use the word fool lightly... misguided may be the wrong word, because I think this is a very carefully planned out attack on women first. But, I believe that it is just the start of something terrible. I hear the word God thrown about in this season's political campaigns and that is scarey. When did America become a puritanical christian ruled country? If anyone believes that the founding fathers believed we should all be controlled by some holier then thou religious leaders, then that person should bone up on his history... nothing is further from the truth. (history, hmmmm his-story?) The vile hate speech coming out of the right-wing talking heads is pure evil and aimed at stripping away every civil right we have won over the past 50 years. All I can say is, if this continues to grow, it won't be just the women of this country who go to war... I don't recognize this country I fought for, it isn't the USA anymore, it is something darker than I ever could have imagined. Bravo for your brilliant image and words...
my friend I could not agree more, don't you love it when old men think they should be in charge of women's reproductive systems and rights. I don't know who I hate more Rush for being a complete ass or the people who are coming out now trying to minimize what that dumb ass said. great work bravo ++++++++++++++
First let me wish you a very Happy Birthday, and secondly tell you what a good render this is... a powerful looking character you've created here, the fierceness in her gaze is enough to make me turn tail and run... gun or no gun! I can't wait to try my hand at DS4Pro. While I appreciate and respect your viewpoint I also can see a certain ammount of validness to the right's arguement against the Obama admin's trying to ram birth control into various religious organizations against their doctrines. Where does it end? All-in-all I do agree with most of your points, though. Certainly Rush made an ass of himself, not the first time nor will it be the last that a flippant, on-the-air remark has brought about a public outcry to hang someone in the media. I've heard far worse comments though from the left side of the aisle such as Bill Maher regarding Sarah Palin, for example. Now, before anyone jumps to conclusions I'll let you know I'm a registered Dem so put away the notion that I'm some dottering, right-wing, ditto head stooge. I've always been a fence straddler when it comes to both issues AND candidates and I research everything I vote on, whether it's a person or a proposition. Abortion is a personal issue and as a man I would never try and tell a woman what she could or could not do regarding such. Ignorance by way of religious dohma is nothing new, it's been going on for as long as there's been religions and will continue until there aren't any left... I don't see that happening anytime soon, however. It asshats like the Bobby Franklin that you mentioned in your rant that make me want to puke... ignorance at that level of governemnt makes me wonder who the Hell ever voted for this dipshit in the first place. It's my opinion that his mother (and us all) would have been better off if she'd hit him in the head with a hammer when he was born and just sold the milk. To propose that a pregnancy conceived during rape or incest is akin to any "normal" pregnancy is beyond stupidity. How anyone could believe they have the "right" to condemn a woman to carrying that child to term is beyond rational thought. Thanks for a thought provoking post and once aagain I wish you the happiest of birthdays, may you have many more... :) Don
Happy birthday to you! Hope it's been a good one for you. As for what you've said here, I'm on the side that agrees with you. I also share most of Barry's feelings about this. What has happened here? I don't know the answer, but I'll agree - this is not the America I grew up in or know any more and it's terrible. Kudos to you for speaking your piece!!
If you are a conservative woman you need to man up and speak out for your rights. And if the douchebags in congress don't want to pay for welfare, then they had better get out of the way of contraception, because women have to work and they can't work if they are having babies every two years. The stupidity is mind-boggling. And Happy Birthday too ;)
Doesn't it seem like the religious right does more to drive people away from religion than anything the secularists might do? Couldn't agree more. As a pundit once said, when they are talking about "family values", remember they mean your family and their values.
The United States is trying to turn itself into a repressive regime much like those that our "government" deplores in their rhetoric. And these attacks are not just ones against women. They are against "everything" this country has ever stood for. They want to silence free speech on the internet or anywhere else they can reach. They want to track us and monitor us like we were criminals without benefit of judicial oversight. They want to kick us off the internet because they have been suborned and bought by corporate quasi-citizens defending a dying if not dead business model instead of leaping forward and embracing the newer business models. They won't because then they wouldn't be "in control" like they have been. The executive branch of our government has signed a "Trade Treaty" called ACTA which is the international equivalent of SOPA/PIPA and which the executive branch has done without any congressional oversight even though it should have been approved or canned by congress under the articles of our Constitution. Talk to your congress critters. Harangue your Senators. Get your voice out there and heard even though "Big Media" and political hopefuls are trying to drown you all out. Bravo! I hope you had a happy birthday.
So... happy birthday, a way-cool image, and... WTF?!!?! I seriously don't get what sort of jackass thinks they have the god-given right... Agreed to Prae, the US doesn't have a monopoly on these people, they're everywhere. I doubt that comes as a comfort.
Happy Birthday! :) I can't believe (well, i can, unfortunately) that some people would hold such views about rape and abortion, and try to pass them into laws. :( NOBODY should decide for a woman what she wants and can or should do in regard to her body and her pregnancy, especially in case of rape, and even less by some half baked shitty law.
The reason we've seen an increase of attacks on women's health issues in the last year is because Obamacare was voted into place a year ago. It's not a coincidence. A natural and completely predictable progression of National Health Care is that a lot more things that we didn't consider health care issues are now being framed as health issues and thus we need to throw other people's money into it. Particularly women's health issues. That's pure political strategy. After all, no one likes being given the choice to either shut up and buy some total stranger's birth control pills or be labeled as a woman hater. But that's how it is now. So...here we are. People are angry on both sides. Anyone who didn't see this coming wasn't paying attention. There's a lot of things that were unpalatable to half the country that just a year ago that they were willing to otherwise let slide because they weren't involved. They might grumble and complain but they weren't going to form activist groups over it. That's changed. Now that everyone is going to chip in and pay for everyone else, total strangers have a financial stake in what we do in our private lives where they didn't before. Because of this, the only way to prevent having to pay for someone else's choices is to take the choice away. Either that or go back to a private system where you get all the choices you want as long as you're the only one footing the bill for those choices. We can't have it both ways. If we're going to invite the government into our bedrooms to force our fellow citizens to fund the results of what we do in them, we're going to have to get used to our fellow citizens being pissed off about it. You can't blame them for being pissed off. Their ability to choose was taken away from them.
