Bit of an experiment, that started out as building a scene so I can describe it in a SciFi novel I am working on, 98,000 words written so far.
This is the headquarters of the Imperial State Security (ISS) for the Imperial Federation of Enlightened Systems (IFES) on the Crown Planet. The IFES government is a weird mixture of monarchy and dictatorship. The founders of the IFES used the most effective elements of communism, capitalism and fascism when developing their government and it is an oppressive regime not adverse to engaging in state sponsored terrorism against its opponents both internal and external. The ISS is like a cross between the old KGB and China s Guojia Anquan Bu or Ministry of State Security. The ISS and the Imperial Office of Inquisition and Orthodoxy control the citizens of the IFES rooting out dissidents and heretics and those unfortunate souls who stand in the way of the elite.
I wanted the ISS buildings to stand out from the others which are from the Dystopia city block series, to have an imposing sculpture on the room of the main building and roof top gardens for the high ranking officers and elite personnel to enjoy. The nice first impression of the ISS HQ is in complete contrast to the actual organization and its ethics. However I wanted the sculpture on top to be ugly and overpowering to detract from the beauty of the buildings and show the organizations true nature.
The buildings of the ISS are just Vue primitive objects with textures applied and the roof top garden is an ecosystem, the sculpture was created in Wings 3D and then a rather extreme metal texture applied. The sky is an alpha plane with one of my sunset photos. Many thanks to Thomas Krahn for the great tutorial on how to use photos for skies. www.thomaskrahn.com
