Please leave comments! I love comments! Which side do you root for? Who should win? Perhaps I will make a scene of the winner based on comments...
This image should be viewed FULL SCREEN or you will miss much!
I had to massively shrink this image and reduce the quality due to the renderosity rules. You may view the exact same image, but full sized, at my website: http://darkelves.org/img/doneBig.jpg
A word about violence...
I normally don't post violent images but I have been playing an Amazon strategy game and I am in the mood for a massive battle scene. Additionally, I cannot render a man which looks even remotely real so I am stuck with the girls. lol fear not for these women as they could each take on any man!
THESE ARE NOT REAL AMAZONS...
I generally make historical scenes with the aim of being accurate, but this scene is truly fantasy and not really based on anything real. I based it loosly on my Amazon Total War game, which I enjoy. The blue colored side is slightly more like Greeks and the red colored side is slightly more northern European, though these are only loose similarities.
The BLUE side:
The followers of Artemis, these amazon women protect their sacred temple. The invaders from the north have attacked and the priestesses and warriors, though caught off guard, will fight to the death to defend their temple! You may noticed that they are using bows, even in close range! I ensured that each warrior carried a sword for close in fighting. You may noticed that some of these warriors appear to wear ceremonial clothing and work clothing. This is because they were caught off guard.
The RED side:
The amazon warriors of the north have sworn conquest of the south and the first target in their plans is the famed temple of Artemis. This battle should have been a quick rout but the priestesses have mounted a quick defense. Some of the norther warriors are so fanatic that you see them fighting wearing only their colored paints, wading through arrows with a resolve only their total dedication to the task could bring!
This scene required 20 renders and a week to build! =)
My next scenes should be quite tame and happy by comparison.
Please tell me what you think!
I love comments and I hope to hear from you.

Thanks! Each of the 20 renders was 3500x2000 with nearly max settings. My works all have that colorful sort of look. I spent lots of time tyring to get rid of the color and be more realistic, but I descided that I like the color, so it is here to stay!
An exciting render of Amazons battling other Amazons. Battle art is so rare here, so a big thanks for the huge amount of time spent on this lovely render. You didn't resort to gratitouts nudity and the combat appears realistic. I hope to see more battle art from you.
(to ArtHound) Thank you for your comment! I have started a campaign of creating more "epic" scenes then I generally do. I am trying to create full scenes with massive landscapes and lots of figures. My new graphics workstation can render about five full Victoria 4.2's with clothing and full textures and nearly max render settings, so I figured I should try. As for nudity, I love nudity as much as the next person, but why would most warriors run about naked? I have one or two who are out to prove themselves and nothing is as scary to your enemy as you running at them naked and painted with a wild look, but this is really for a few and not for the general rabble. Skin sucks as armor. =P I am making a large scene right now featuring priestess of Eilistraee, the Drow (good) Goddess. The scene will be quite nude, but this is the way Eilistraee's clerics behave and is depicted as much in about ten fantasy books. I plan to make a massive battle scene this weekend featuring Averial Evles (Winged) fighting a dragon! I hope you will check them out. Thanks again for the comment
It's obvious that lots of work went into this, but I wonder if a little more might improve the look a lot--specifically posing the figures in more active modes. Too many of them seem to be standing still rather than moving, and those that are moving still look pretty static.
