This poem came to me whilst I was creating the images and videos I made for Remembrance Day.
I know it certainly isn't a technically perfect poem, but I wanted to upload it as it came to me in its pretty raw state. Anyway, here it is...
You went to war when young and strong,
Lied about your age.
You travelled off to foreign lands,
For us you'd get blood on your hands.
The sights you saw, and the horrors you bore,
I can never imagine.
For cherished freedom you did kill,
Though to do so made your body chill.
Without you all, our lands would fall,
We give you thanks.
You did what needed to be done,
Every soul that fell a mother's son.
Remember we must, those times long past,
And all who've fallen since.
Liberty demands an awful cost,
So many of you have been lost.
So once a year, we shed a tear,
Standing silent as we think.
Of those who lost their lives in war,
To keep the countries they love secure.
Perhaps one day there'll be no more, sending young men off to war.
But until then,
We all can pray.
For our the troops so far away.
