Description

I’ve followed Renderosity since its inception, and joined the community in October 2003. A while after joining I saw the above image posted here at Renderosity. It intrigued me and led to my first contact with Neiwil / Neil Wilson. This started a long friendship. Neil was a fantastically good modeler and was equally as good at making great textures for his models. What really set him apart from most 3d modelers was his unbelievable generosity – he posted his models for free downloading both at Renderosity and at cgshare. He also had a “12 Days Of Christmas” surprise gift give away comprising many models in each gift. Neil was a fantastic historian, making images to illustrate historical occurrences. He was an ardent aviation artist, using his skills to illustrate aerial combat in both world wars, as well as civilian aviation history. He delved into sources which permitted him to present the history of individual air craft and their pilots, making both his images and the people presented very much alive. In addition to the above, Neil had a fantastic sense of humor. Beside the work described above, he created a continuous story about “The Plant”, populated with very colorful individuals, and put them through all kinds of funny, absurd and cliff hanger adventures. Neil was also personal. He posted photos from his work at a bowling place in Liverpool. He also presented Liverpool city and various buildings of interest. After his tours, I felt like I had been there. Though an air craft enthusiast, Neil also posted photos of ships, military and other motor vehicles with descriptions accompanying each photograph. He was a very good photographer. This was particularly of note with his photos of aircraft at various air shows. Neil died some 10 days ago. I learned of his passing yesterday. It is with great sorrow I say good bye to Neil, and hope we may meet again! (NOTE - the image above is by Neil Wilson and is his property. It is posted here as an In Memoriam. I make NO claim to it!)

An outstanding memorial to a very talented and generous artist. I have a bunch of his airplane models which are excellent - I've bought stuff that wasn't as good. A testimony to his generosity and dedication to the belief that keeping alive the memory of history and events was more important than making a buck. His memory will live on - he will not be forgotten.

One of the things I love best about Renderosity is that is brings people together that would otherwise not meet. I have made many friends on Rendo. I am sorry that your friend is gone Michael. You have written a beautiful memorial for him. I know you will miss him.

This makes me so sad. I really liked Neil and his zany characters. He was always so nice and never complained about what I know he was going through. Thank you for the wonderful dedication to this extraordinary man. He will be missed.

Oh no, this is a real shocker. I didn't even know Neiwil was ill. I enjoyed his work, his subject matter, and his sense of humor. I'm stunned at his passing. In any event, a fine and apt memorial to our associate.
