Description

Dante sets out led by Virgil, when a door surmounted by a terrifying inscription appears before them: 'Per me si va ne la città dolente, per me si va ne l'etterno dolore, per me si va tra la perduta gente. 'through me you go to the painful city, through me it goes into eternal pain, through me it goes among the lost people. it is the gate of Hell. I wanted to represent it in a virtual way with the terrified souls trying in vain to escape that portal.

Abandon hope all ye who enter here....

would certainly be a deterrent to anyone passing its inscription

Once again you nailed it...it's not only a creation (and what a creation !) but it's a message too...will we be able to escape from damnation (the virus) ?

Great scene and scary message. Eternity is forever so hope we find the correct path here on earth to avoid that hell and eternal pain. Well done!

I didn’t see the gates of hell like that, but they say the road is paved with good intentions

Sometimes I wonder if what we're going through now really is "Judgement Day.". Even if not, the world has been changed irrevocably. Whatever we thought was normal last year, isn't anymore. Will we humans learn and change for the better?

But to the image at hand: great job, Guilband. You are very good using Bryce. It's been quite a while since I last played with it (2008?). Dante and Virgil are on a fool's errand, unfortunately.

You've transformed Dante's entry to Hell into an amazing, bleak desert. (Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate..."Qui si convien lasciare ogne sospetto; / ogne viltà convien che qui sia morta...") And the soil looks like a vast graveyard of human beings...I see human torsos and human faces, all flattened against the ground, like big mounds of mud. And, in the background, you have these amazing stones of light: dark purple light. It looks like a wall. (Or maybe it's the pale remnants of the light that Dante saw on the hills..."guardai in alto, e vidi le sue spalle / vestite già de’ raggi del pianeta...") Whatever it is, I don't think the condemned souls can get past it.

And you've put that purple in the sky: It's a deep, ominous color, as if the last rays of sunset were soon to turn to darkness. And then, the famous words on the the Gate are a wall---but they're made of light, or transparent glass, rather than of stone. (They're like shining crystals!) And the souls on the right---you've rendered them as bronze/gold plated sculptures, running from the dark regions surrounding them. Their color is powerful, Giuliano: They glow, but they're dark and foreboding------have you ever seen photographs of the U.S. Depression? Especially the "dustbowl"? There are photographs, from that era, of people running for shelter, while gray winds blow all around them. Your running souls remind me of those photos: There's no wind in your image, but the landscape is as desolate; you have human bodies everywhere; and they run under a darkening sky, with no place to hide. (Like running in a huge desert: Wherever you go, you're still in the desert...) A terrific image for some of Dante's most famous lines. I'm re-living Dante for the first time in years, through your images! You're making me appreciate his work all the more. Grazie...this is a great series.

A most terrifying vision. Looks like they are running over the decomposing bodies of other victims and residents! Most hellish work! Well done! Bravo!

Fantastic idea and creative scene. The panic of the people is dramatic. The land is bleak and lifeless. This is a very unwelcoming place. Good work on the message and the whole feeling and mood of what it could be like.

Like a herd stampeding, each running to escape the inescapable, with no thought for the others around them. Much as they lived I would imagine. Stellar work! I always look forward to seeing your work.
