Description

Hello...:) Have been quite busy but here I am..lol. Have not had much time for practice either...:) Anyway's I have come to a conclusion with Daz Studio. After a few days of playing I am totally convinced that it is alot more difficult to learn the lighting in Daz then I thought. A well a lit scene with maybe some rim light reflection on one side is not at all easy to achieve. In my opinion, Daz is great for outdoor scenes and or scenes that do not require studio bright ligting. I may be wrong but I would love to yet see a scene well lit with rim lighting reflection made in Daz. There are many preset lights for Daz and I have bought a few such as Daz Studio Pro etc. Or either I am not usng them right, or something else is wrong. I do not aquire the looks that are on the promotional previews of the lights. Now if the lights are for you to modify then they should not be named presets..in the first place. I have the Daz Studio Advanced Version. This version should support all sorts of advance lighting that the regular version doesn't. But I really don't see or find to many options. It is a bit discouraging trying and trying, render after render and nothing..lol It may be I need more practice or I just better save up for Poser...lol If I would have known this issue in the first place I would have never purcahsed the advanced version of Daz. I see so many images created with Poser with awesome lighting that is just impossible to achieve in Daz. Anyway's made this image tonight. After trying with a variety of presets that only worsen the image, I decided to set up my own lights this time. Using one of the Uberenvironment lights (setted to ambient only) and a few spot lights and distant lights, I tried to create or at least simulate a soft rim light coming form one side. But if you notice, and even after playing with the light settings for more then an hour, there is a slight dark line visible on the legs that I just did not like, but still thought the image was beautiful so I posted it...:) Hope you all like it and thank you so much for the comments on my previous image. It is a very beautiful picture but even more interesting is our musings about Daz Studio vs Poser. I never used Daz but is always checking out what others do with it, as its future looks much brighter then Poser's. Are you sure that you maybe only need more time? Because IMO the Daz renders generally is superiour, for instance look what schonee does with Daz, http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/browse.php?user_id=433785

Beautiful work! The colors and lighting are stunning. I know what you mean about the difficulty of getting the perfect lights, I fight that myself. As far as the dark line, I get that too, and it does seem to be worse on some skin textures than others and lighting definitly plays a role. I've spent hours setting up a scene envisioning the lighting only to get those lines and have to totally rework the lighting. Although in this I probably wouldn't have even noticed the line if you hadn't mentioned it, lol. Although not what you saw in your minds eye it is a beautiful image and very well lit and composed.

It is a lovely image but I see your problem. There is no depth - it looks flat. I do not know the default render background color for DAZ but for poser it is grey. This makes it easy to see the objects in your scene but if you render against it you will have such lines around your subject when you paste it onto a background. You MUST render against a black background to get a clean edge to your figures. Change your background settings before you render. I don't use DAZ but it is my impression that DAZ is the best for portrait work and Poser is best for landscapes... the opposite opinion of you. However, I do know that DAZ will never give you the shadow depth of a poser image because poser Ray trace is far superior in that regard to anything in DAZ. DAZ will always give a soft look compared to poser. For the record, Schonee was very frustrated with DAZ lack of shadows and painted in most of her shadows in photoshop. We shared many sitemails on this issue.
