Description

Luckily this was through the long lens! Far North Queensland. Australia. Cassowaries feed mainly on fruit, although all species are truly omnivorous and will take a range of other plant food, including shoots and grass seeds, in addition to fungi, invertebrates, and small vertebrates. Cassowaries are very shy, but when provoked they are capable of inflicting fatal injuries, The inner or second of the three toes is fitted with a long, straight, murderous nail which can sever an arm or eviscerate an abdomen with ease. There are many records of natives being killed by this bird.

obviously bad to the bone - makes me think of the Raptors in Jurassic Park with their toes.
Great captures and cool narrative

Very good photos. Very nice colors. Thanks for the description - I had no idea about these birds except the odd name. How large are they , considering eviscerating a human. I'm glad to see then at a distance or from inside a car. Thanks for the education! Keep up the good work! :-)
