Continuing the series illustrating Christina Rosetti’s poem “Goblin Market”; nearly at the end of the story now. Lizzie, trying to cure her sister Laura’s malaise, returns to the goblins to try and buy some fruit with a silver coin. They refuse, and attempt to secure another victim by forcing her to eat their fruit, squishing it into her face. She resists, and covered in juice and pulp departs the goblin market.
"Though the goblins cuff’d and caught her,
Coax’d and fought her,
Bullied and besought her,
Scratch’d her, pinch’d her black as ink,
Kick’d and knock’d her,
Maul’d and mock’d her,
Lizzie utter’d not a word;
Would not open lip from lip
Lest they should cram a mouthful in:"
It’s taken me a while to put this one together, trying to figure out how to best illustrate the scene. It's not exactly as planned but its close enough and a slow render, so will have to do for now!
