I've wanted to do some carrier deck scenes and takeoff/landings for quite a while, but the logistics of it were pretty daunting. There is always a tremendous amount of activity going on as well as equipment. Don's USS Yorktown has enough detail in it to justify the work involved in setting up some of these scenes. I've been putting together deck crew, props, ideas for a while now and I thought I had enough to do at least one trial scene. The Deck Officer giving the "Go!" to takeoff seemed like a pretty classic start.
I was surprised that with all the elements involved, the render time was just around 2hrs. Of course I did leave out the fancy water effects.

Which is the great thing about closeups- all the atmospherics can be quietly turned off- now the machinery is front and centre. Its excellent. The bystanders look very convincing- though shouldn't some be screaming at each other over the noise of all those engines!!!! ;-)
