What's New with The Art Of Carol Cavalaris
Galleries: I currently exhibit my work in several Colorado galleries, including juried shows at Art At The Center in Nederland, and Gilpin County Art Association in Central City. I also exhibit in several on-line art galleries. I also have on-going exhibits at various banks, community centers, libraries, restaurants, and also participate in local Art Fairs and Festivals. Art Licensing: I am a collectible artist with The Bradford Exchange, where my art is on a Dream Catcher Collection, as well as an exclusive figurine and sculpture collection. You're definitely going back into heavy painting techniques with pieces like this. (And the other colored versions are all equally beautiful, just creating a different mood.) The linework here isn't as filled with digital blend and softness as many other works---we feel brush and even pen tip in this. The substratum of intense emanating lines is everywhere. You use a lot of hue gradations---more saturated oranges next to less saturated; or brighter next to less bright---in your lines. Contrast from line to line, as they move in singular directions out from the flower-centers to the edges. I can see the orange, the peach and the pink; but I can also see deep pinks and deep oranges (almost red browns), and purples bordering on blues, and some high key yellows, etc. The green buds are bold and very sensuous; and the greens in the background flow like rivers. You have that "flame" feeling here which you have in a number of your other pieces: This whole bouquet---which we experience as a closeup, "in medias res"---is in flame, visually. And the stamens are very white by comparison, and are some of the only solo bits in the image, standing out amidst this sea of passionate hues and lines. Also, often you'll have pronounced upper and lower portions, where you fade into light or dark, and out of which your 'subjects' emerge: But here, we're right in the middle of it all (in medias res), and it's like being dropped into rushing waters. Like Georgia O'Keeffe, you go inside the flower and unearth its powerful essences. This is very powerful. A beautiful series, and it looks---from the heavily harmonized brush strokes---like you spent a lot of time doing this...And I like the rough-hewn nature of all those strokes: They give a viscerality to this "close-up"---which is what this feels like. More highly complex and sensual work from you.

Thanks so much for your wonderful comment, Mark. I have been experimenting with more painterly techniques, always trying to find new ways of expression in my work. I had purchased a big bouquet of orange gladiolus and loved the vibrant color, though I didn't see how much pink was mixed in with the orange blossoms until I took a photo and enlarged it in Photoshop. Amazing colors began to emerge and inspired me to blend in many tones. The textures and colors inside flowers always take me to another world ... a place I love to be in. For the time I am creating I am living inside the flower, absorbing all the beauty and wonder of this magical creation of nature.
