Description

I wanted to do 2D for you, Bill, but my 2d is just awful these days. So I've been rummaging through old photos, turning them over and talking to them, to see what I can learn about the art...So while this isn't a great shot, the sight reminded me of many of your qualities: gentleness, strength, warmth, radiance, beauty...so I gave the shot gloves, a nice scarf, and told it "Look good for Bill!" And I offer it humbly on your birthday... It's true what people say about Bill: He's kind, caring, very heartful, and just classy. Not "Brooks Brothers" or "Louis Vuitton" classy, but classy of the heart, the kind that makes people glow, radiant-classy. He lent me my first DSLR, he even offered to give it to me, he did so much research for me---you should've seen it, it's helped me to this day---and he's been so kind to my art. He's been loving and kind, period, and he does it without a smidgeon of pretense or effort: That's special. I've not even met him, and I can say these things without second-thought. His photography (here) is like him: thoughtful, sensitive, intelligent, so fine, loving, almost like fine wine...I learn from his work still, in fact it's made me a better artist. And he's built such a loving life with Tara (auntietk), which has been so special, and which shows to everyone who meets them and in everything they post here. It's been a pleasure to know you, Bill: I wish you all the light and kindness in the world, and that everything you've given to others come back to you many-fold: You're a jewel of a soul...Happy birthday and many more, with blessings and joy in abundance, from the crazy 'monk' in freezing but generally friendly chicago, mark (Please see full size, if just for the colors...)

Mark, first of all allow me to say what a splendid dedication this is for your friend. Having just come from Lucinda's dedi to him it's easy to see he keeps great company. This presentation is a very thoughtful dedication to him, and one I'm certain he will treasure. You're glowing words of praise as well as the selection of this photo are a tribute to the character of the man himself. Thank you for providing me with a bit of a lift on a dreary day ;)

What a beautiful tribute and dedication for Bill this is! He really is all those things, and the best part is that he's all those things all the time. :) I love the warmth of your image and the warmth of your words. This is absolutely lovely.

Hey, I'm calling a cop...that Maxima is hanging way over the corner. Oh, wait, that doesn't sound like all those wonderful attributes does it? He he,...well it is my birthday and I can take on any attitude today and get away with it for a day I suppose:) A lovely scene rich in light, color and detail. This contains one of my favorite bits of composition...a sidewalk going toward a vanishing point. My father first introduced me to this idea about 10-15 years ago. Thanks a million Mark. This has made my day. Your thoughtfulness and your kindness are in abundance here today.

I dont know what i must say that is better here, Mark:)) Your foto is wonderful with all the colours and light that you have in your city and that you show, in a way so special, in your photos, that we can FEEL those places, like if we had already been there ...Also your words !! They are quite terrific...they come so much from your heart ,they are so much significant, with so much transparency, that even if i dont know Bill, after read you, i almost can do the portrait of his heart and soul and honour him:) Moreover, you never lose your humor also, in what you say so seriously...Then, with all this together, you made once more, the most wonderful dedi, that one can have and to dream of:) and Bill, for sure deserve all that! My best wishes for Bill and many more Birthdays with health and joy!

Terrific capture of one of your classic Chicago residential areas, Mark, enhanced with gorgeous color, lighting contrasts and sidewalk shadows -some of my favorite subject matter - in this poignant birthday tribute to Bill, a Vietnam War veteran, aircraft and auto buff, and USA continental traveler, among other things.

I was just arriving in England when you posted this for Bill; I have to say I agree with everything you say. And your dedicated shot is, like Bill, full of depth and mysterious goodness in every corner. Well done, my friend!
