that was fast! I love the big spread of reds and oranges and yellows, and the drops all over them. And the little "brush purple splotches" (I don't think that's the botanical name), and that typically deep purple center. You caught the essence of the poppy. It's triumphal! (I'm sure triumphal doesn't happen enough in your life these days, so I'm glad the flowers around you are at least giving you some empathy and light...) You caught the power of this flower.

People have asked if the poppy seed is hallucinogenic (since people use the seeds in cooking), and the answer I've heard is that you'd need to eat a ton of it to get the effects of the opium (or opioids, whatever they're called). I never did drugs except just dabbling in college; but I did opium once---we did it in a huge apartment---and I gotta tell you, I was on another planet. It's amazing that a flower can contain such potentially dangerous chemicals...But when you look at the intensity of the poppy, you can see how it's possible: The flower seems to broadcast intensity and danger. Anyway, it's a big bold shot, Barb, and I hope you see alot more of these in the coming days...
