Description

Okay, I know you are wondering what the heck this is about. Well, it's more of that art student creativity! ;o] While shooting the previous photos, I found a discarded toilet in a junk heap behind a building in the apartment complex I was living in at the time. Of course, I immediately started wondering how I could possibly use it in an artistic way, hahah. I found out later when I was mountain biking down back roads with some friends. We discovered a scene of destruction -- an old church had recently burned down in an out of the way area. Days later, I loaded the now well cleaned toilet into the back of my car and lugged it over to the site. I carried it through the rubble and to the place where the altar must have stood. I set the Topcon up on my tripod and planned out the photo. It took several tries before I was able to release the timer, run through the rubble and arrange myself on the toilet in a natural pose in time to make the shot. I felt comfortable doing this only because it was a very out of the way spot in the woods. There were some houses through the trees about 200 yards away and I can only imagine what the residents must have thought of my antics had they seen me. Once again shot on B&W 35 mm film. I didn't feel this image needed any toning. I debated whether or not to just post the image and let the viewers draw their own conclusions, or to give an explanation. I feel in this case the story adds a little something. ;] ----- False Gods Series

I find it always intersting what the creative thinking was behind any piece of art. We can draw our own conclusions as to what we think, but hearing the artists own words makes such a difference as it is clear cut and no two ways about it. So what has happened to this kind ofcreativity now? Are we victims of comfort? When one is younger and does not know any better, we tend to be more adventerous. i suffer from it too. Thank you for sharing.

Alas, this kind of creativity - unfettered by experience - does suffer with age. My main excuse would be time. I just don't have the time with family and full time job to do things like this anymore. In college I worked only part time and when not in class, could pretty much do what I wanted. I miss that freedom at times, yet would not trade my life as it is now, and am glad to experiencing it when I did.

I don't think it's just a matter of time... in your youth you have different thoughts and your mind free for creativity. Getting older your mind is busy on the family and the job and creativity has not that place anymore. Don't get me wrong... your work is always very creative! Just what I have experienced in my life. Exceptional work, Kort!
