Description

Just taking a break from the "Impossible Dream" (nope, it's not over yet!). I always just assumed that the sole primary purpose of a submarine was to be submerged most of the time. I didn't know that fleet submarines were designed to submerge and run submerged when they needed to, but were specifically designed to be fast on the surface with the added feature of being submersible. This one is the USS Trigger. Something that I keep trying to get better at is convincing ocean swell and especially rough, choppy water. I think I managed just the right amount of choppy and windswept foam on the crests of the waves to satisfy myself in this one. I always forget to write down the steps, so the next time I set out to do one of these, it'll be back to the laboratory. USS Trigger: Very nice model, incredible price by Chris Schell at schells.ca. Some tweaks on the railings and a bit on the texture by myself. Officers on watch M3 and uniforms from poserworld.com. re-texed. Dauntless dive bombers by Neiwil at sharecg...very, very nice model. USS Vincennes: free on sharecg generously by Briney (used 4 instances) USS Casablanca (CVE-55): Free on sketchup warehouse by jjasper123. US Destroyer by BVR..here on Rendo by RPublishing. That is one fantastic image! I love the ocean white caps on this one. I have tried fifty times at least to do this in various versions of Bryce and I fail every time. Five stars, three cheers and two thumbs up!

POV is great. The two planes just above the conning tower is really what sells it. Very nice job on the water too.

If your water gets any better, you'll have to start tagging images with an 'oil skins required' warning. I can only imagine this is harder than physically painting the water. At least then you can see the results as you go. Low-res renders will give an 'idea' but it's only after hours of final render you know what you've actually got. You certainly 'got it' here Bill, totally awesome! brilliant pov and atmosphere with a cool, diverse 'fleet' and a must zoom fave! Thanks for the mention bud, always appreciated....

Recommend reading Das Boot as it has lots of sub tech detail in it (North Atlantic Ops rather than Pacific though). Excellent work.

Very nicely done sir and ty for the mention! :) The old submarines ran mostly on the surface... main propulsion was diesel with batteries for submerged running, but the batteries were only good for abuot 24-36 hours at best. Standard proceedure was to run on the surface for most of a patrol, diving only when nessessary to avoid aircraft and enemy ships. Most subs ran surfaced till they hit their patrol zone, and then would dive by day and come up at night to recharge the batteries and get fresh air on board for the crew...
