Description
"As I bent down to look, just opposite,
A shape within the watery gleam appeared
Bending to look on me, I started back,
It started back, but pleased I soon returned,
Pleased it returned as soon with answering looks
Of sympathy and love;"
Eve's first moment of self-awareness occurs when she spies her reflection in a pool. Eve is consistently more self-aware than Adam, both from the perspective of her secondary status and their subsequent predicament.Satan is able to exploit her feelings about herself during the critical temptation.
Mary Shelley reproduces the scene in Frankenstein, and in it the creature recoils in horror. Both Shelley and Milton are drawing from the myth of Narcissus in Ovids Metamorphoses.

A marvelous piece of imagery and technically flawless. It is at once compelling and reflective and the richness of its textures and colors can be standards in the excellence of craft. Bravo !! :-)
