Description

Ok, so I decided to work on this a bit more, with the advice given about SubD. And with a couple other tricks. OMG. (I don't use that phrase lightly) So yeah, the car looks better. But with an increase of the iteration size, I finally managed to get Rochelle's freckles to show up! I love it! Oh, wow. I wonder if that's all it took. I think from now on, it's 10k iterations or higher for me! Her freckles are too adorable not to capture. Anyway. If you liked it the first time around, then hopefully you'll appreciate the improvement. Switched to the 8k, no DOF version of the HDRI, but then added DOF to the camera to help with the lower resolution of the car's interior. Much better, I think. Not pixelated. And most of the chonkinesss got smoothed out of the window frame. I also went ahead and applied Khory_D's wonderful vintage enamal shader to the car. It's still yellow, but that shader looks much nicer than the old texture-turned-iray. Not quite the same Cab Yellow, either, which makes all the difference. She loves her classic coupe, and I happen to think they look good in yellow. Trying to get through all my WIP before I do a system reinstall/refresh. Just in case. I got a few days - after all, I want to try out Bend Control to see if I can fix my illustration "Lenny Cuts." Gotta wait until payday, at least. Time to get through the WIP pile. So much work getting all my custom characters set up so I don't lose continuity. To be honest, I'm tempted to just limp it along until its time to build the new system. Anywho, this is 16:9, so if you need a new desktop, enjoy having these lovely ladies on your screen! ~~LA P.S. I almost tagged nudity because I know for a fact that neither of them are wearing pants. :grinning:

"I know for a fact that neither of them are wearing pants..." 🤣😂👍 I love it..

This is excellent! Love the ladies, and the car looks great. I really need to get my butt back to playing with DS.. I recently installed a 2TB M2 SSD in that machine, and reinstalled DIM and DAZ. Now I need to actually do something with it.. In the past, I've just grabbed that iterations slider, and yanked it to the right as far as it would go... I'm like that... LOL

I've seem some really life-like stuff at like, 2,000 iterations. So I figured it didn't do much. Almost two years later, and I'm still learning, lol.

Thank you! I'm glad it's noticeable. I mean, it looked super obvious to me but I've also been staring at it for days and days

Thank you. I bought Rochelle as soon as I saw her, way back in '18. About a month into using the software. She's my favorite. Then when Aakash came out she became a big reason why I purchased the Kala 8 Bundle. She's not even IN the bundle. Then it was pride month, and I did one render with Aakash and somebody else and then happened to load her into a scene with Rochelle and the rest is history because I can't really render one without the other now, lol.

Canonically, Rochelle is the cover model for the books my character Lenny writes, and she met Aakash through that, though I'm calling them "Rachel" and "Amira" in the book, just to add a little separation. Aakash/Amira is a makeup artist. They're inseperable, and adorable. And I haven't done a scene with either or both that has turned out poorly. Whenever I'm feeling really down I load 'em up and let art happen.

pov in the car is super along with the lighting. very well done render of these gals. at my point in life and budget buying daz products and learning the program would be difficult. don't have a clue how to install data or use my poser stuff in daz.

keep up the super work.

Thanks a bunch! Using poser stuff isn't so bad for the most part, but the file structure is different. I suppose its like the old Apple VS PC thing. The only Poser file I've had trouble with is La Femme, but I haven't been too impressed with that model anyway.

I appreciate the feedback.

Iterations, you can just yank that laft and let it go till you're happy. Some scenes need more. Reflection and bounce do, if you have a lot of light bouncing around. And more lights seem to help. But some things are just weird. I have one going right now that's grinding hard. The character uses a super hd mesh that kills my system.

This one really looks a lot better. Car is smoother, and the enamel shader looks good.

I got the HDRI, and an emmisive plane. Two lights.

I want to do a night scene. Same car, same couple. Different posing, and have them lit by the dash and a streetlight. Maybe put a couple red lights out front to simulate the tailights of another car. Should be a worthy challenge.

Thanks. Of course... Now methinks there needs to be something hanging from the mirror. And I need to see if I can fix the bump map of the seat/steering wheel which are tied to the same surface. Maybe I'll go in and seperate them so they can get separate shaders.

It's a great scene to practice on.

Uh-oh

It seemed too good to be true. And it was. I loaded up the car to go in and work on shaders, see what I could do about the steering wheel. Make it even better.

Only, I hadn't really made it better. I made it worse!

SubD didn't just round the windows. It rounded everything. Which meant that it doesn't fit together right. The doorjams don't work right. That's actually why the door seems to be a little funny. That's why the chrome is sticking up from the hood. Once you zoom out, all sort of ugly seams appear.

Ok. I like this car, but... I'm just glad I discovered this issue before I went and did third render. Sorry Rochelle. We're going to have to find you another ride.

The saga continues! Thanks for all the wonderful comments. Now I'm off to find something suitable. I got that Charger from 3Dclassics...

Hmm. Mayb'e he's got a nice coupe. I got plans for the Charger.

Mhmm. Unfortunately, once you zoom out you see that SubD had some terrible side effect. :(

The corvette doesn't have chonky windows, thank goodness, or Lenny would be heartbroken.

Rochelle here, though, is going to need a new car. And I think I'll turn it into a story.

Thanks for having a look at the redux!

Thank you very much, Bugs. Thank you for looking! I'm working on a new one with these two. After I noticed that the 36 sedan is not going to cooperate, I decided Rochelle needed a new car. Sure, I could just render the Sedan from far away and turn SubD back off, but now that i can see the jagged curves, I can't unsee them. They're all over that thing. You can see there in the lower left were the hood panel is leaving a gap with the rest of the hood from being "curved" by SubD.

Weirdly enough, this is the only car from this set (at least of the ones I have) that has that jagged curve thing going on., You should see it on the door jambs! The Corvette I used in my other render looks great with nothing but some iray shaders added, and according to it's file date they are the same age of model.

Anyway, Rochelle/Rachel is already set up with another ride. I'm writing a short story to go with the render, so it might not get posted until tomorrow.

I get a little long-winded. Occupational hazard of a writer! Thank you for looking, and I hope you comment on the next one!
