Description
Where trains once ran, now a walking and cycling track.
Here you see Julie my wife trying her best not to be in the picture and in the centre a bronze figure of a little girl waiting for someone to meet her. The story is that she represents one of several evacuees from one of the cities, during the WW2, who had got off the train and all were collected by strangers who had been allotted to take them in to their homes except this one. She eventually was sorted out but what a trauma for the little girl from a big city who was 'dumped' in the country with nowhere to go!!!
The large square lumps of concrete were put there to stop the advance of German tanks should there have been an invasion.

Love the fact Julie has her handbag with her! I prefer to be empty handed on a walk, but a friend of mine even used to take her handbag dinghy-sailing!!

What an amazing shot. The bridge over the old railway, and the tank obstacles really do it for me too. If they haven't done so already, someone should put bronze markers on those obstacles. In another generation or two, no one will know what they were put there for, or what their purpose was.

The stories of children leaving a war torn city, alone, to meet with strangers is already a heart rending one. How lonely, and scary to sit with no one to meet you. It's wonderful that they have a statue for her to remind us of her story and of all the stories of children forced to leave their families due to war. I like the expression on Julie's face. I've seen it before on the faces of my family when I point a camera their way. It's sort of a smile, but a little tight around the edges. Lovely image. Beautiful detail and depth. The sense of depth is really enhanced by the two people in the distance seen through the arch.
