it may have altered someone's photograph, or borrowed from it....but i still think it was a good idea and that it looks good the way it was altered....don't we all "borrow" other images....Great job...

I'd consider this an homage to your great grandfather as well as a wonderful statememnt on the horrors of war. Wonderful.

I have seen the original picture before and have always wondered, "Why is this child alone?". The photographer was obviously there but who was there to help and comfort this child? This post has had an impact on me because of these questions I have. Yeah sure, it could be taken as grotesque and disrespectful, but only if it is not seen with the somber attitude that such a topic deserves.

All you did was take someone else's work and put a poser skeleton in it, right?

I love it, it isnt just a skeletlon in with a photo of someone elses, its got a reason, i find it a wonderful piece

One of things that we want art to do is get a reaction. This is an extremely powerful idea, and bound to evoke a firestorm. Don't let negative comments stifle your creative impulses. After all, I have lots of fun doing things with the Mona Lisa in Kai's Power Goo...

To the likes of eukodol, Dodger, and DragonFly223: Personally, I find this work to be quite powerful. Whether the artist used a stock photo, or how difficult it was to make isnt the issue. We here at Renderosity seem to judge art only by how difficult it was to make. We only praise those artists who can make the most photo realistic Poser model there is, when it would be 1,000 times easier (and more realistic) to just take a picture of a real person. At least here we have an artist who actually has something to say. More than I can say for anything Ive seen from you. (sorry for the rant mojogoing. I find the ignorance of some to be irritating and feel you deserve better.)

I'm with loneglyph who cares if you have to rub the top of your head one way and scratch your ass the other at the same time to render the pic when art is good it is good and if you used a pic (even shot by someone else) for your piece it is still art and should be viewed that way very nice piece with a lot of meaning

A lot of people feel that being an artist is about being good at the technics of the medium ( paint, sculpture, digital or whathaveyou ) but its more about communicating with the viewer. Beautiful work, and very strong message.

It is a rare occurrence for an artist to have something legitimate to say. It is even rarer when it has such an impact on an artist's community. While the technical aspect of this was fairly simple (adding a Poser skeleton to an old Black and White is no large feat) its message is what truly elevates this art above many others. Bravo.

Even if you neglect the simplicity of this piece and it's apparent disrepect to the original photographer, there is no artistic value to it. If you like this image, what you're liking is the original photo and it's original message. It's a powerful, stand-alone picture. War is horrible enough without an "Evil Dead"-like skeleton helping out.

Great idea!

This picture i believe takes place in China during WWII, after the Japenese invaded and destroyed. I saw this picture in a documentary. City might be Nanking, but I'm not possitive.

When I first looked at this picture, I couldn't understand why you chose a skeleton to be there with the child... that is entirely a different subject in its own. So we come to main idea here. The picture in itself is extremely good work of that of an artist. If you all want to get technical about the picture... which seems to keep popping up... There is not one pices of work by any of you or anyone who hasn't even seen the picture, that havent borrowed textures from someone else... borrowed figures from someone else, borrowed props and everything else... I think that when each and every one of you can honestly say that you have created a wonderful piece of work such as this completely by yourself without the help of a "poser character" "Object files" choice textures and scenes by someone other than yourself. Sorry if that pisses anyone off... but that is my honest opinion. So rate the art OF the picture... not your misunderstandings. This is Art.

Even if the original photography isn't yours, the final new picture you made of it is more than stunning... it's terrifying and let's me shiver to the bone. "A war can't be won", and that's only one of the messages of your work I get here.
Don't let others kick you down, it's a masterpiece of art, even -or because- it's so horrifying.

A powerful, emotive image that stirs the soul.

The skeleton is redundant. Thats what made this photograph a "powerful statement" before it was changed. You may not have thought of a skeleton before or you may have, you may have thought about the welfare of the poor kid, what happened in the background, either way you could not help but have a thought about this. The skeleton does not add anything, what does the skeleton represent for you? Now how does that compare to all the thoughts when it is taken out?

Simply unreal- this image is powerful enough on its own, however, the Poser touch up gives this image an even more stunning and horrific feel. Unbelievable job. A great piece of work to add to your profile.

I think the picture is an amazing piece of art. A lot of thought has gone into it and to simply dismiss it as "grotesque and disrespectful" is naive in the extreme. I think you can tell that it is such a good piece of work if you just look as the sheer number of comments. Everyone sees art differently, and this piece has actually moved people to comment on it in one way or another. Well done.
