Description

In 1948 the first blasting with dynamite took off 10 tons of rock, since then millions of tons have been removed. The workers are now blocking out the horse's head. The painted outline shows the 45 foot ear and the 16 foot wide eye, some 260 feet below the head of Crazy Horse. This sculpture will not be finished in this century. This is in the Black Hills of South Dakota and taken in May this year.. Jocko asks what the hole is for - it is the start of the armpit and Crazy Horse will be pointing out to his lands over the horses head.

Gives added charge to the word "monumental." What an undertaking. Intriguing to think what reactions it will cause 500 years from now, let alone 100.

Well the obvious answer to it taking so long is to double....no triple the amount of dynamite used! I'm an ideas man! GREAT shot mate.

What an amazing capture and POV. I like that 'hole', like a door/window on it, and the shadow-play here.

I have seen the model (maybe in your gallery) and I still had to think about that hole. It is a fantastic POV and capture - a shame that we will not see it finished. Dana

I had always wanted to see this man immortalized. Not in my lifetime, but seeing it still actively being carved makes me proud.
