Description
This is a fresh water catfish, on display in the Gaylord Palms Convention Center tropical gardens in Kissimmee, Florida. This specimen was about 3 feet (.9 meters) long and had lost his tail maybe to an alligator. The size of adults, of this species, is about 3.9 to 5.2 feet (1.2 to 1.6 meters). They are called catfish because of the prominent barbels, around their mouth which resemble a cat's whiskers. Most catfish are bottom feeders and find food by using those barbels. I'm a catfish fan and that goes way back to my middle teen years. I have worked hard at learning how to fish specifically for catfish and have a dream of one day hooking that 20 pounder. So much of a dream it is that I have a catfish tramp-stamp in hopes it will give me good luck in catching it some day. There are 3,023 species of catfish, making them the 3rd most diverse order of vertebrates on Earth. I'm not greedy...I'll be happy with just one channel cat of 18 pounds and not quibble over the other 3,022 species and the lost 2 pounds on my goal. LOL

Lol jif3d!But there are Dogfish. Luckily for the catfish, the dogfish is a saltwater fish!
