Description

The Battle of Canne August 2 216 BC was one of the major battles of the Second Punic-Roman war, and took place near the town of Canne in the current Puglia. The army commanded by Hannibal of Carthage defeated and destroyed most of a numerically superior army of the Roman Republic led by the consuls Lucius Aemilius Paulus and Gaius Terentius Varro. It is considered as one of the greatest tactical maneuvers in military history and in terms of casualties in combat, one of the heaviest defeats in Rome.

Great render and history lesson! The remainder of the lesson is the failure of Hannibal to translate that crushing tactical victory into a strategic victory, leading to the eventual destruction of his own civilization at the hands of the Romans. Yet we remember Hannibal, not Quintus Fabius, and barely Scipio Africanus.

Nice render for this scene of war, in Gaule. But after Alps, Hannibal should walk directly to Rome, and try his luck.

One sees not only a skillfully built work of art. You also get a history lesson. One must zoom it. Than you can seen the expression on the faces. From human and animal. Great art.

And yet Rome eventually laid waste to Carthage and sowed the land with salt so that nothing would ever grow there again. Fabulous post work on a superb image.
