Description

Captured way back on 5/3/07, at the pretty Butterfly Pavilion, adjacent to the beautiful Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, California. Since there is a paucity of insects in my area, I have to drive 22 miles in order to photograph butterflies and moths.

I know I was only doing 1 image per gallery, but I broke my rule with you, and came back for 2. (I'm about to put up an upload, so I came over here for an 'extra'. I'll do more next week.) I missed this one in my previous jaunts, and I don't know why. The contrast of the white moth with the deep bright oranges of the flower is stunning. Plus I love the placement---I mean, I know you didn't actually place the moth there, but you shot it at just the right moment, and you composed the shot beautifully. The deep dark around the flower and moth brings out not only the flower and moth, but the bits of green and orange in the background. Terrific handling of all that black, Harry. Cropped beautifully too, with the top of the flower almost flush with the top of the frame. A beautiful little portrait, and the moth adds a whole other world to it. I'll be back for more. (And you posted pretty soon after your dental invasion---I'm impressed! With more of those terrific tracks, tonight, a dynamite glass image, and more opulent flowers. Hope you're holding up through these health invasions!)
