Description

Here you see a Brunel impersonator strolling down the upper deck. To reiterate a little, this ship was the first iron vessel to be created and used on the oceans of the world, it was driven by steam and sail therefore it was the first vessel to have a 'screw' or propeller. Pioneering engineering indeed. When it sprang a leak in the Falkland Islands she was in shallow water so most of her was open to the moods of the sea and weather and of course the local people salvaging all they could. This left her bereft of any timber and was just a rusting iron hulk. To re-float her and put her on a barge for her 8000 mile tow back to Bristol England a call went out to all the islanders for old mattresses, cushions and any other padding available. They responded and divers stuffed the holes enough to re-float her by pumping out the water. Didn't mean to bore you. Jeff.

Not boring at all Jeff. Brunel was famous for his trademark cigar. I can't see if this Brunel has one! He also very nearly died at a young age when he inhaled a coin that he was using whilst doing a magic trick for his kids! After trying several methods to remove it, his own dad ended up saving his life by turning him upside down and forcibly yanking the coin free.

Very interesting information and wonderful capture! I like the lines of the masts and rigging, and the fluttering flags. Excellent title. Brunel does look like a ghost as he walks alone in period dress, among the tourist. Excellent POV, detail, composition, and color. Great shot!
