Description

Continuing my series about the birds seen earlier this month in Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands: The Berthelot’s Pipit (Anthus berthelotii) is a small passerine bird which breeds in Madeira and the Canary Islands. It is a common resident in both archipelagos. This species is named after the French naturalist Sabin Berthelot, one-time resident of the Canary Islands, by Carl Bolle. A Macaronesian endemic distributed on the Canary, Salvage and Madeira archipelagos. Berthelot's Pipit is among the most abundant of all breeding birds on the Canary Islands and is found in open areas from sea level up to 3000m. Common in open pine forest, lava fields and scrub zones but just as much at home in towns and on golf courses. Common on Fuerteventura almost everywhere. You truely have a gift for photographing birds. I would encourage you to compile your works into a volume... these are too good not to share.

The background looks like it was designed to match the bird, but I guess it's more likely that the species survived in part because it blended in with it's surroundings. Fine shot of this handsome bird...
