Description

After eating dinner out with friends in Benecia, California, we exited to see a spectacular sunset. We were in a commercial district downtown which didn't offer very appealing views, so I drove off in search of a better locale. I drove down a bunch of residential streets, racing the light as the sun descended further & darkness approached, but all the views were obstructed in some way, by either houses or electrical wires. I finally found this view right before it became too dark... Please zoom.

Stunning colors here coupled with the tropical trees. Like you, living in town I don't see pretty sunsets. Good POV and shot.

You found a lovely spot, those trees couldn't make a better foreground interest! Beautiful sunset capture!

I can see you running all around looking for the perfect place. Your patience and dedication paid off. This is gorgeous! I like the slightly grayed color of the vegetation in the foreground against the brilliant colors of the sky. A most pleasing shot!

ba-da-boom! Stunning! Again, your way with hues makes this a blaze of fire behind those lush carpets of trees. The yellows below those deep reds (and crimsons) make it look like the sun's not just setting, but it's nearly touching the earth. With the white sky on top, and the darkness below, you got real contrast. And I love the two lanterns in the "bush"---on the lower left. To show night is arriving. Plus, you got some heavy detail in the trees, etc---not easy, I presume, in all that shadow. A beautiful job, Claude. Blazing.

Re chasing the sun: I've literally---I'm not joking---yelled at the sun at sunrise, to keep it from getting to the point where the whole "sunrise" thing turns into day. (Ie, where the sunrise hues fade away, and you get normal sunlight.) I didn't intend to yell at the sun, it just happened. A couple of times, people stopped me and laughed with comments like, "you can't change the sun!" But it's always moving, and I totally get you're racing through the streets to get the right pov, while the sun---not giving a damned about you---keeps setting. Those "framing" times of day---sunrise and sunset---are limited, and you have to do everything in that time frame, or it's gone...I'm actually glad you caught this at the last stages---the contrasts of light and dark are amazing, in your hands.
