Description

These are the bell ropes in the bell tower of St Mary's church, Chard. The ropes are in the 'up' position meaning that they are stowed safely. The church carries a peal of eight bells.

Eight bells is great..the church I can hear from here has six and it doesn't really make for a satisfying sound. It is the place where my banners hang that I took so long to make, BTW. You can see them http://www.flickr.com/photos/16054928@N07/sets/72157625102416370/ if you are interested, Jeff.

This is so cool Jeff...might there be any bats in that belfry? Have never seen the arrangement of ropes before...most interesting.

Now you've got me wondering how a novice bell ringer practices! They'd hardly want their mistakes pealed out over the town! Terrific image ... it's interesting to see the way they keep the ropes separated.
