Description

Credits: Background by : Fairiegoodmother - At DeviantArt Model by:mjranum-stock - At DeviantArt Thanks everybody for all support to my last post. thumb_2243494.jpg Hi dear Friends: For some time now, there has been a growing controversy here at RR regarding ratings, comments, and related issues. Now, such discussions seem to have escalated to the point where even some of the artists that I admire enormously have begun to express the view that, for some reason or another, to comment or rate images, to create symbiosis and friendship with others by regularly exchanging posts on each other's works is something negative that we should be ashamed of. Indeed, it would appear that popularity is something bad or can only be obtained by one being bad (e.g., if an artist is popular it is because he/she is a mediocre artist who comments on many images in exchange for comments in return). Though I can understand the motivation underling such views, they are seriously warped. Renderosity is a space where the whole purpose if for people to view, comment, evaluate, and rate each other's work. It is about creating an online community of artists. The time spent seeing and commenting an image is a token of appreciation and incentive more than anything else. Of course, there are some cut-n-paste messages which are not the kind of thing one ideally would want, but even in this case one should not automatically consider that they are careless or just self-interested pseudo-praise, for they can be simply the consequence of lack of time or even lack of knowledge of the language. We can't assume that all such posts or their authors are morally bankrupt. The same goes for posting a comment on somebody's work as a reply to a comment given to your own work, that is to say, it is usually just common courtesy, not the purchasing of popularity. Values are being mixed up here. It is important to note that, if one thinks that popularity, position in the charts, being artist or vendor of the month, and so forth, are of no importance or value, why not simply ignore those things altogether? Why is there a need to go through the effort of broadcasting, discussing, or even campaigning against them? Good art is the synergistic result of hard work, popularity, creativity, intelligence, and, above all else, sensitivity and humbleness. It is a social and cultural process, as much as a technical and inspirational one. There actually are some shameful things going on at RR, but they are of another nature. They have to do with the deception of posting comments praising someone's work only to, behind their backs, give them a poor rating on the said work, doing so without ever offering any sort of constructive criticism. They also have to do with making malicious comments meant simply to put down an artist, or being so proud of oneself as to believe that if you are not on the top it is only because you have been unfairly short-changed by lesser artists who bargain for votes. These are the types of things that we should be wary of, not the legitimate bonds of friendship, politeness, respect, and admiration that make this virtual community so successful among digital artists. Putting people down simply because they post comments or are socially engaged is just as bad as picking on them for not posting at all or staying to themselves: one has no right to do either of those things. Thank you again for all your support and friendship, without which I would not have learn all that I have and continue too! Have a Great week Monica

Very well said Monica. I have been amazed and perplexed reading the posts where people seem so upset by art charts and such. To me this site is a wonderful place to view the art of some magnificent artists, as well as post my own for others to enjoy and offer critiques on. I some time back stopped having the rating box on my images after getting only good comments but some amazingly low ratings. I love your image btw! Its gorgeous.

Absolutely beautiful work, Hon & great manifesto. ;) Personally, I look at, comment & favorite art that is inspiring to me (which, let's face it, most of it is - LOL!). And usually I "favorite" an image that really inspires me, so I can go back to my saved images, study it, and hopefully learn from it so I can grow as an artist myself. I think it's a little sad that things have come down (in some cases) to a popularity contest and that there's some backstabbing going on. It really disappoints me. But just know my intentions come from the heart, and I am truly inspired by your (and many other people's) pieces of work. Keep up the gorgeous images, they brighten my day! :D XXOO

My friend Monica, his manifesto is something really extreme and a perfect fit, these background facts, which unfortunately only have to destroy nothing to add to the beauty of art. They do not realize that this practice will only lead to the end of a path RR.Arte is a feeling that comes from the heart, respect, ethics and friendships are values that were a priority, but that some are trying to stop. His work is magnificent, and puts the lightness of the sincerity and the feeling of a true artist and friend, congratulations for the entire contest, one thousand cheers

Gorgeous Image I enjoy the flow of it. I try to comment on others work no matter who they are for the most part I do not know that many folks and like certain styles a bit more than others however I try to comment equally on all images. What I mean to say is sometimes I log in and spend time commenting on 3 or 4 pages of all the newest images no matter what catagory they are. Due to the nature of some images being marked adult content or nudes I simply have to pass them by as there are kids in the house. Best wishes to all

Oh, this is really great work. I like the composition of the image. Excellent. And you have the reason here, friend. When we comment on another's artwork is a sign of appreciation and admiration for that work of art. It is sad that just a few people are ruining the way we can appreciate art, by commenting and rating. How else can we know for certain if our work of art is good or not, if we need to work or adjust something that somebody else did see that we did not catch up? Nevertheless, what is happening in the galleries we cannot control it, but we can choose to ignore it, or just follow the crowd. I chose to ignore those negative comments and keep posting, because I like what I do, art. I hope you do also keep posting because you like what you do, and do not please anybody else. Keep on the good work, friend! =D

I think nobody's here have never expressed so rightly the truth about that complex subject, I know something's going wrong because some people here are talking about it but never feel myself concerned or touched by such attacks, maybe because I am not that popular ;-) Anyway once again I am touched and impressed by the rightness of your words, so congratulations and thanks Monica for those words and that beautiful photo manipulation :-)

it's nice to read you and your manifesto is full of good ideas. Fortunately, if it should not be an epiphenomena of generality, it is nonetheless true that groups of cliques, they reinforce each other. Since 2006, five years ago, I wanted from RR, at least three times. But here I am today trying to please everyone,,, I will lose my soul, and that's not what I want. I managed to get a group of friends, which I comment on when they have time. I do not blame them for their absences ... simply, I had a bad artist, because my gallery has never been in the spotlight and so that my pictures are very poor in 2150 ... fortunately I love them , I have performed with passion and I am proud to show them. with much love art, and my respect Claude

Outstanding message, I'm sort of new here and I'm glad to find such open statements, someone who has the courage to speak her mind - I totally agree with you, I think this is a place where we have to enjoy art and express our artistic pleasure - that's all, very simple. I guess most of us post here to escape from reality, this is art - a beautiful form of escape, a refuge, a heaven. I don't think we should produce negative emotions when it comes to art. Speaking of your image, IT'S GORGEOUS, one of the best I've seen so far, the colors knock me down, the composition is a model of sensitivity and delicacy. A MASTERPIECE, dear Monica, BRAVO!!

This is a nice composition you made and a good statement.I've been At Rendo 11 years now, and in some other galleries at well. I've noticed that from time to time, and this which ever the gallery might be, you find some people not playing fair game. I don't really know the reason why some people are lobbying or bad rating ot making unconstructive remarks. Why people become fussy, I don't have the answer. So I will continue on my very own road, in my very own way and comment, rate and fav in a fair way and show my appreciation to the artists whose work I like in total freedom of mind and heart. Let's keep up the good spirit,my friend!

A very beautiful image, Monica and a great piece of writing. I couldn't agree with you more. I've chosen not to have my images rated as, as you've pointed out and others as well, there are those who praise the image and then hit it with a low rating number. it is totally unfair and most definitely unkind.

Well said Monica very well said the only thing i think i would disagree with if someone offers constructive critism take it has a helping hand look what i achieved with a point in the right direction up until then i could not do rim lighting so one should never be hurt, i dont understand what all the fuss is about why its so importent to so many people i dont even look at the ebots i get what for i dont get any prizes or a big head either my art is mine i like it i enjoy it that is all that matters i dont give a stuff what anyone else thinks i have stopped commenting because im sick of the hastle and all the childish bickering i just wish i could turn everything off why should i stop posting because someone has the hump about the chart or the leader board as its called whats the difference if your 1 or 2 or 10 or 20 for gods sake please people grow up and let this community be running in harmony again being at the top of any of it is not anything to do with the quality of your art is it be honest because i know i wouldnt be there for sure hugs lou x
