Description

A few days ago, Richard (Richardphotos) was commenting about realistic lighting in DAZ vs Poser. I was intrigued by the comparison, so I thought I'd see what I could come up with. This was done in Poser Pro 2014. Although I have poser Pro 11, I'm still using 2014 for the moment. I tried Poser Pro 2011 on my old HP computer (that ran PP 2014 perfectly), and all I could get it to do was crash. Once my two laptops get back from repair, I may put it on one of those. But I digress… Anyway, on this image... The lovely lady here is Keesha, one of the beautiful freebies by Ute (Syltermermaid). For the sunlight coming through the window, I just used a Poser primitive – a simple box – outside the window as kind of a stand in for a photographer's soft box. I covered the window with it, gave it an orangey color, and went into the material room and cranked the ambient way up (somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.9 something or other). I ticked indirect lighting on in the render settings, and did a few test renders. Of course, with her wonderful soft frizzy hair, it ratchets the render time up quite a bit, but still it only took just under an hour to render this at 3840 X 2160 UHD. And yes, for those of you who are wondering, I did run the final image through Photoshop. It is extremely rare that I do not touch things up in Photoshop whether I'm using Poser or DAZ Studio. This image only had a minimum of tweaking, and of course the background photo outside the window in the background – which is one of my photos from a vacation a couple years ago. I finally got around to putting DAZ Studio on this main computer and did some testing last night. I'm really pleased with the results, so you'll be seeing some DAZ Studio stuff from me fairly soon. And yes, I am working on the next page in the TNA story, so stay tuned! As always, thank you for stopping by and for all your wonderful comments and support. And of course for all of your inspirational art! Rod's Lair Facebook Twitter Girls From T.N.A. Twitter Page DA Patreon My Blog

Wow, that is fabulous lighting you have achieved in this beautiful render. Excellent work with the posing too. You have had a lot of grief with your computers, I do hope that you get them back soon and that they run like clockwork again. 😀

outstanding results Rod and highly sensual pinup. I hear some say that Poser lighting is more easy to manipulate than studio, but I do not know. I enjoy trying to get the SSS mats come out as the vendor intended. whether I get there , I do not know. all about enjoying what one is doing

Indeed, I've found Poser's lighting a bit more intuitive, but it probably has more to do with the fact I've been using Poser for almost 9 years, and just recently took on DAZ. My past experience in setting up studio lighting to shoot models helps quite a bit with both apps. It helps to think of DAZ's spotlights as softboxes - you can specify the size and shape of the spotlights also. Once I figured that out it made my DAZ life a bit easier! LOL

You baffle me with your amazing talents in ALL phases of renders Rod. Freaking WOW! Hawt gal in b this super lite room. I don't think I can achieve lighting like this no mater if p9 had the chances. Great job and discription on your work. Enjoy the rest of weekend.

Looks great...lighting is the one factor that makes or kills an image.

looks great. I think what ever program your comfortable with you can make some great renders. I have seen some amazing reality renders but I can't work with that render engine

fantastic work the sunlight from the window is nicely done. I was a huge poser fan until IRAY, the lighting options are so much better in Daz and that is key to great renders sometimes

Beautiful image! I only have Poser 7 to compare with DS so I'm ignorant about the possibilities of the newer versions of Poser. My computer is really not powerful enough for complex renders, so I just deal with what I have. I also have conflicts with all morphs for V4, M4 and the Freak4. Once I installed DS I lost any ability to use head or body morphs for them. But great work my friend.
