Description

I've been trying to fool with blender and ran into Blend Swap. There are incredible models available there, for example the Aiax rendered here. The model was created by RKGalery and shared freely. Also, very useful to me was that I learned how to turn a plane into an ocean via blender. Rendered with Octane after output blender file to obj. The sky was created with Terragen from NWDA free sky starter pack and textured onto a box sitting in the background within Octane.

Quite superb. Isn't she sitting a shade high in the water? Not sure but a thought.

Fantastic image! And thank you for the technical details! I love the lighting on the water. And the sky is gorgeous. The ship's sails and flags look very realistic. Is it a dynamic cloth simulation or were they modeled like that? Did you use a tutorial for the plane-to-ocean conversion or did you find the way to do it by yourself? Carrara has it's own ocean creation tool, but I am not always happy with the results, so something like this would come in handy.

Thank you everyone for the very kind comments. Pruiz, I agree, a little lower in the water would have been better. But it was tricky, because a small boat was being dragged and I didn't want to sink it. I probably could have moved the ocean around a little and found better interaction with the waves. Antaran, I don't remember exactly how I did the ocean, other than download the Aiax blend file, find the ocean button and hit it. On the "blend swap" Aiax download page, that same question was asked and answered. Since you use Carrara, using blender should be easy enough.. My experience is that I am a slow and frightful learner. I approach something like this, hit a couple of keys, then run away again for weeks at a time, and then come back again. Slowly, over time, little bits and pieces seem to sink in. I don't know how RKGalery did the flags, I suspect it was within blender. The blend swap site is amazing, the models available for free are awesome. Someday I'll do more than turn a plane into an ocean by hitting a button, but for today, that felt pretty good! I'd been struggling with how to add motion to water for a long time. Blender has a fluid in motion generator that I need to mess with. Having a model of water crashing into and over the bow of a ship would be cool.

It is like a painting of the old masters, the way they would draw it around 1750. I like it very much lik the vessel you used. Bravo you touched the right string here.
