Au IXe ou Xe siècle, les moines bénédictins de la congrégation des Exempts venus de l'abbaye de Saint-Jean-d'Angély fondent l'abbaye Saint-Maurice à Blasimon, selon le cartulaire de La Réole. La première mention d’une abbaye à Blasimon remonte à l’an 980. L'abbatiale est consacrée à saint Maurice et l'autel, dédié à saint Nicolas, délimitait l'espace tenant lieu de sacristie. Le bâtiment a été édifié entre le IXe et le XIVe siècles ; aucun document relatif à la construction ne nous est parvenu. La façade de l'église est remaniée en 1150, mais les travaux de rénovation sont interrompus et ne reprennent qu'à la fin du XIIe siècle. In the 9th or 10th century, the Benedictine monks of the Congregation of the Exempts from the Abbey of Saint-Jean-d'Angély founded the Abbey of Saint-Maurice in Blasimon, according to the map of La Réole. The first mention of an abbey in Blasimon dates back to 980. The abbey church is dedicated to Saint Mauritius and the altar, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, delimited the space used as a sacristy. The building was built between the 9th and 14th centuries; no documents relating to the construction have been received. The facade of the church was redesigned in 1150, but renovation work was interrupted and did not resume until the end of the 12th century.
