Description

As Anthanasius mentioned, Flamingos in southern France are more pink ... well, these are "American Falmingos" which are originated in northern South America and the Caribbean, but as you can see not all of them show this nearly over-saturated shocking reddish-orangy-pinkish-whatever color 8=) Greetz and a nice sunday! Hah Ha mate, I never even thought of that until you mentioned it. Honestly! Lovely colours - why so underexposed though?

I like strong contrasts, mate. When you look at the feathers on the back of the birds in the foreground, they are almost white. A bit more exposure and the white would have clipped. The lighting here was a bit tricky, some of these birds were standing in deep shadows from the surrounding trees while others received a fair amount of light ... i think it's a compromise and since i don't like too much white parts in an image (e. g. white skies) i usually choose the dark side 8=))

Nice shot. I have heard or read that the colour of their feathers is dependent of the food. True or not true?

Your instincts are excellent, sir. Far from being underexposed, the lighting is superb. The dark background sets off the birds and enhances the reflections. Outstanding work.

strenger kontrast, der die farben hervorhebt und leuchten lässt! auch die reflexion kommt sehr gut zur geltung! teile deine vorliebe zu kontrasten und daher oft der kommentar: zu dunkel! ;o)

I think that flamingos are the most strangely coloured creature in the big variety of nature. Yes, I know there are a lot of living creatures of all colours and rainbow palette... but this open display of pink... well, it's the strangest :-P I like the picture, and I agree, better a little underexposed...
