Description

This little girl seemed so excited to see the gorillas. The gorilla in the photo bounded over to her, but then turned sharply and sat with her back to the child! NOTE: These gorillas are not stuck in a small cage as it may appear. They live in a huge natural forest habitat at Melbourne zoo. The animal chose to come over to see the child, but also was kind of bribed in that the keepers keep a fresh pile of straw (which they seem to adore and find the most amazing thing EVER) near the public viewing window. After observing this gorilla for about 30 minutes, it appeared to me that she found it quite amusing to completely ignore the people behind the glass..........although she couldn't resist occasionally having a peek! Zoom is good.

Agree with Durley's comment, difficult to decide who is on show here. Great composition !

impressive capture! both are looking somehow sad and so your title fits perfect! and the gorilla really seems to be on a meditation trip g

Very cute capture at first I mistook the little girl as a life-size doll

Very cool shot; I know with the cats turning your back is an invitation to pounce, maybe the gorilla is inviting the little girl to play?

This could have very easily been taken at our zoo, too. Nice capture.

the Dallas zoo has a male gorilla that does not get along with other gorillas, so they kept him a huge habitat. they have a glass viewing area also. the gorilla would pretend to walk away from the glass and then suddenly return and strike the glass very hard. of course the young children and their mothers would be scared. it was the only fun he would have all day. the keeper told me that it happens several times each day. really a great capture

Love your title, shame, the gorillas is more likely more intelligent than the little girl.. But lovely to see no fear, and the gorilla would probably know the lack danger.. Man (adults) are lethal to them! Lovely shot Rob
