Description

Many people have probably seen the HDRI challenge at http://www.blochi.com/gfx/hdri/ The challenge in more high end renderers isnt much of a challenge. But what about a program that does not have support for HDRI's or GI or IBL, no camera mapping, projection mapping or shadowmattes. Well, here's my attempt at the challenge with Imagine. It was rendered in multiple passes, and I developed brute force ways of using HDRI's and faking IBL, my own projection mapping etc. The passes were then combined in photoshop But the real challenge, especially given Imagine's lack of support for all these new tools..... Can it be rendered in a single pass?? Stay tuned ;) ------------------------------ Well, it seems there is a lot of confusion about this render. People thinking it is all rendered, complimenting me on objects that are part of the photgraphic background plate. The HDRI challenge at http://www.blochi.com/gfx/hdri/ is a common well know challenge from a couple of years ago. I thought it was common knowledge. Please go visit this URL. It will explaim everything. I used a different background plate from a different angle than is on that URL, which was provided later. If the acronyms I gave above are unknown to you : HDRI=High DynamicRange Image (as apposed to low dynamic range of a 24 bit picture such as a jpg or tiff etc) GI=Global Illumination IBL=Image Based Lighting If you're still in doubt after visiting that site, look through my gallery. All the composited objects are in my gallery somewhere. Sorry for the confusion, but I did give the URL that explained what the challenge was. I guess if people can't tell what is real and what is CGI, then I guess I succeeded

Excellent photorealism and a cool array of objects. The couch, plant and candle look especially terrific.

That's not a photograph? I don't know what you're talking about in the narrative...but I can see the photographer in the coffee maker. And there's little details that most 3d artists don't think about. Like the wire wrapped around the wall to the kitchen. Are some things in the pic modeled and superimposed onto a photo? Wow!

This is totally amazing Lahl...I seem to have not really understood how deep the project was...the way i would have approached it is something else again...guess I'm a bit dense...or low reading comprehension or something....You are the Mistress of 3D in my books...we are not worthy...but thanx for communicating with us an now...seeing what you've done am freshly inspired to take another run at it....thanx...too bad the highest you can gon on that list is excellent as I think there shiuld be a perfect as well...cuz you are....ooooh sounding like a sychophant again...

This did turn out pretty good. I downloaded the props, but haven't tried it yet! I notice you used a different angle than suggested.

Yes, it is 3d objects composited into the photo. It was a challenge given a while ago now at http://www.blochi.com/gfx/hdri/ to get people to actually use the tools of HDRI, GI,IBL etc to composite in the bacground plate given (there was another 2nd view given later elsewhere and I was so sick of the original angle I decided to do the 2nd angle) I was also sick of the objects given, so added my own instead. The point being to make the objects look like they belong and are part of the scene
