Description

Here's a modified version of the earlier illustration, I decided to go with a rougher story. Obviously, this is just a concept and the editor hasn't responded, yet. But I think he'll like it (I know he'll want me to make the human more alien looking). And I'll need to add more debris to the front cover, but I think if I saw this in a book store I would pick it up. Thoughts? Composited in Photoshop from Sketch and Superfly renders – ran it through Akvis Sketch to get the look I wanted. The final version will be more painterly, this is just a concept so the editor can think about composition and stuff like that.

Thanks for the comments, folks. I just got word that the editor / publisher of the book likes the concept, so I will be fine-tuning it over the next two weeks and then prepping it for production.

This is epic, I would buy that book for the cover alone! Love the raw style, teleports me back to my younger self when the most magic places in the world was our local comic book store, where I spent hours gazing at fantastic cover artworks, grabbed the books with shivering hands, eager to get to know more about the worlds that were bound within these hardcover prints.

Good times, thank you for taking me back there!

Like you, I used to love hanging out in bookstores just looking at covers, picking them up and reading the backs of the books. I like the energy this piece has, but the editor wanted something more polished. Still, I think I'm going to do some more work with these sketch settings in the future.
