Description

This is my attempt at a more slice-of-life image. On a lazy weekend, a young woman is taken aback by a plot twist in her favorite TV show. Constructive critique, especially regarding the overall realism (i.e. how close I am to something that could pass as a photo of a living person), is welcome!

Close is subjective. Someone could respond it is or isn't close and I'm not sure you would have any better insight. The better question is could, this image, pass for a photograph and, IMHO, the answer would be no. Can a graphic image achieve the realism of a photograph?

The answer depends on the content of the image (there's a reason photographs don't have dragons in them), the setting, lighting, pose, camera angle, and skill of the imager. A glance through this site will reveal many graphic images that are quite realistic and of near-photographic quality. Browse through the promo images here and on the other site and you'll see images of astonishing realism.

If you just strive to improve your craft everyday don't worry about 'realism'. Otherwise, just take photos. The best advice I ever got was to not let realism get in the way of a good image. :-)

P. S. Good image.
