Description

Nothing terribly artistic here - it's not even really a great photo, but..... This was just down the street from my house about 2:00 AM today. And this is after things had calmed down a bit. At one point there were probably 20 police vehicles lining the street. No idea what was going on, but the house that's all lit up near the center was apparently the center of attention. Not surprising - the residents there are not of the highest quality. I took this with my Ipad while looking out the side door of the garage - all the while being ready to duck behind the minivan if the lead started flying. Thankfully that didn't happen, but I did see the police hauling someone away. I'm convinced more and more that it's time to think about finding another location for the Lair. We've been here for 15 years, and the neighborhood has been in that slow but steady downward spiral for the last several years. Most of the houses around me have been bought by owners that don't live here, they just put these places up for rent - and apparently rent them to anyone. A lot of unsavory types have moved in the last few years. I know anywhere you move into a neighborhood, you're going to have a few assholes. But I'm hoping we can find someplace with a minimum of them. My personal preference would be someplace out in the boonies - with a moat filled with (hungry) alligators. And that's if they manage to get through the minefield unscathed.. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming! LOL

Sorry about your neck of the woods Rod. Soany areas once a jewel are going criminal activity. Seen action like this driving around, streets get closed and find a different way. Best thing is you're all ok. Thanks for sharing. Hope your prop value does not go down.

I agree with you about being out in the boonies. a friend of mine told me if her wins the lottery, he will buy us both homes out in the sticks. after 31 years here, I have seen a bunch of things happen, and mostly not good. too many fools shooting guns around here with no thought about bullets that goes up comes down. luckily there has not been anything that required so many police. they usually show up when there are some beautiful ladies involve in scantily clothes

No place is 100% safe. But, if you feel you'd like to relocate, you should do it sooner than later--have to keep in mind the value of your house. Fortunately, even though I live in NYC (Forest Hills, Queens), I live in a relatively safe area and I'm in a 24-hour doorman building. I too would like to live in the boonies with an alligator-filled moat, not because I feel unsafe, it's just that I really don't like humans very much. Individuals are OK, but I'm pretty picky :) Hope things are more quiet for you tonight.

It's not just there, the entire world has gone insane. I blame social media, its allowed the idiots of the world to unite.

I'm glad the lead didn't start flying, and that everyone there is okay. If you're serious about moving, sooner is probably better than later. One possible alternative to the boonies, however, might be a smaller town where people know each other. If, God forbid, things really get awful, being part of a community that you know and can trust will be safer than being alone.

I own a place in a very affluent suburb, so basically sweet FA happens here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The worst thing I see is rival BMW SUV drivers auguring over parking spots.

Oh, MY! And from your drone photos it looked like you lived a good bit out of town! And this looks like it's just in the middle of a mess. As our friends above have suggested, move when you still can, and can still get some of your property investment back. Not totally into the sticks (who will protect you if some jerk comes around with a bang-bang mentality). But a peaceful small town would be great. I real pitty this interrupts the TNA story, but better safe than sorry. Keep up the good work, Rod! :-)

That's why I live here. I don't have many neighbors and they are all too old to get into much trouble. Hope things settled down enough so you could sleep.

Hey, I thought this stuff happened only on television! Just the facts, ma'am. Just kidding of course. Nice night shot with your iPad. I don't have to walk far to confront eroding apartments and homes and weird people on the streets talking to themselves. Things have been going down the tubes around here for years already, especially with the influx of sanctuary city protected illegal aliens. The only positive to all this is that I have a nice supply of abandoned footwear to shoot. The decent folk who can afford it move up into the hills, only to be wiped out by annual wild fires.

LOL at your descriptive! Yes, it is getting worse and worser as far as criminal elements invading formerly safe neighborhoods! I hate seeing this trend progress and wish for a miracle that would reverse it. As you point out, where would a person find a place that doesn't suffer from these elements in one form or another. Either you have the criminal element or the busy body goody two shoes individual(s) that love sticking their noses in your business! I swear, what is a person to do? Well, glad you didn't have to dodge bullets! Thank heavens for that! You are lucky in that respect, I think. Take care my friend and if you find that place that is comparatively safer than where you are at, better keep it a secret, or it will soon be overrun by the unsavories again.

I'll let you know when something comes available here in this bedroom community 30 minutes outside of Wichita. We have Broadband and good neighbors! I haven't seen any un-harvested insulator trees tho. On the other hand, We're most likley to have Koback, too. ;(

With an incident this close to your home, you really need to get out of there. While there's no guarantee of 100 percent safety anywhere, there are lots of nice places to live and who knows you might find something less expensive if you search enough! I've had to move a few times because of neighborhood dangers. Best of luck!

(Rod--if you notice that this comment was moved in the order, here, it's because I realized I misspoke badly, and wanted to correct it: It isn't renters who are the problem, per se; it's what you say---it's renters from landlords who don't care an iota who they rent to. I was a renter many years, and many people rent because they can't afford to buy. I never meant to sound like I'm down on all renters ((I'm not)). So I amended my comment to use your wording. I just was loose with mine, and didn't mean to be...)

I'm glad I'm ending with this, because I wanted to wish you and Jo all the luck in the world finding a new place. It's a big deal (it can be traumatic at our age!), but it's also thrilling to get a new place and start fresh. And yeah, the more places are for rent---from landlords who don't care who they rent to, and who are just out for the profit, not even noticing their renters or what they do---the more the chances of people moving in who don't care, or do drugs, etc. I live in a high rise, and the rent from offsite landlords has attracted dealers and all kinds of people who use places like this as centerpieces for their 'trade', and their landlords could care less. (We've had two cocaine dealers in the last decade, and I mean heavy duty. And all kinds of troubles came with them.) The scene you show above gets more and more typical. And with a president who has a knack for extremists---embracing them, exacerbating hate everywhere he goes---it gives carte blanche to anyone who wants to be hateful and destructive. I wish you and Jo all the best with it, Rod; and hope you find a place that's great, peaceful and beautiful. If you'd be further from the city (or any big town), I hope it's close enough that you can get there without hassle...but being further away can be very peaceful too. All the best with it---and you'll have to put up a plaque for your lair---people of the future gotta know how alive that place was...you sure put a lot of yourself into it (flood repair included!)...

Don't see stuff like that around here. Did look out my back window the other day and see a bald eagle perched on a bent sapling by the edge of the lake though. Not sure what the neighborhood is coming too. Use to be ducks and geese but looks at what I have to put up with now. Eagles. Aren't the coyotes and fox bad enough. What's next! :D
