Era frequentemente utilizzata come rifugio dai bucanieri nel XVII secolo, anche se non deve essere confusa con l'isola omonima nei pressi di Haiti, molto più famosa nella letteratura riguardante la pirateria nei Caraibi. Non ero al corrente di questa omonimia e tu Nick? Ottimo lavoro come sempre

Reminescenza di letture adolescenziali .L'isola di Tortuga (che fa parte dell'omonimo comune Haitiano), è stata la base ,tra il 1630 fino al 1713 circa ,di tanti Bucanieri ( I fratelli della costa) resi famosi dagli immortali capolavori di Emilio Salgari , il più noto -e figura storica - fu Henry Morgan detto Morgan il pirata. Tutto questo l'ho riscoperto casualmente una decina di anni fa nel leggere un bel romanzo "Tortuga" di Valerio Evangelisti (un autore che consiglio a tutti gli appassionati di SciFi Fantasy&Horror , l'inventore di Nicolas Eymerich ,l'inquisitore ) e come mio solito ho voluto approfondire l'argomento scoprendo diverse cose vere eo romanzate su quest'isola , tra l'altro molto bella!
