Description

Somewhere on Highway 160, north of Kayenta, Arizona. Our trip today was filled with blowing dust and sand skittering across the road in waves. The landscape changed every few miles, and it was quite an experience! All in all a beautiful day, though. Fantastic views!

Very beautiful captures I assume that the two of you take turns driving? (except for Mandy - her feet can't reach the pedals too well)

Oh, I really like this! I mean, I really like this. I mean, seriously, this is good. I love the haze of dust, the shape of those rocks, the whole sense that this isn't on a road at all, but on...one of those worlds where stories happen, dusty stories, stories about people doing things, and dust getting in it. In short, good stories, and to top it off, this is simply, perfectly gorgeous. It's making a trip into my Favorites.

This has so many wonderful, different things going for it. The gauzy, misty look is wonderful, but then there's an almost surrealistic aspect as well. I'll just have to keep looking at it!!

Just how far have you driven? This looks like one of Chip's desert worlds. Outstanding composition. I like it a lot.

Makes me think about... "All day I faced the barren waste, without the taste of water..." Nice shot!

You are magic with a camera. Even when you just randomly point it out the car window. Amazing pic.

Are you sure you and Bill haven't landed on Mars? Nice shot Tara.

All it took is one look and I knew you were going to say something about the wind and dust! You must be headed east? Tare, you have a couple of spots in the sky. The one on the left could be a dirty lens. The right one is big and square. Not sure what caused that. Patch ttoo can take that out easily. I have one I think is on the sensor. Cleaned everything else and it is still there even changing lenses! Drive safe in that wind pulling the trailer!

It does look like an alien place; those dust devils are fun to watch! So much to see in this big big landscape!

Nearest I've got to such beautiful desert scenery is in Bryce and Vue! (We only have scrubby deserts in South Africa, and I haven't been up to Namibia.) Fantastic!

Excellent shot and a very nice place to be in my opinion, you could learn so much from this desolate place, because there is little to preoccupy the mind with. It'd be ideal to just sit and think. From a archaeological aspect, I bet this place is full of arrow heads and tomahawk heads etc.

I MISS Namibia! This remind me of those windy days on the odd occasion that the wind blows from the desert. I have seen how it takes paint off cars! Gorgeous shot Hun and I really miss you guys. xxx

A spectacular shot, Tara! This has a really alien feel to it – that landscape looks like Mars... I almost expect to see Curiosity come rolling up over one of those hills...

Oh, I do like this...one of those scenes I didn't get to see as I was starring at yellow and white lines. Glad you looked over your shoulder and caught this otherworldly view! As for me, there are times I like to show a lot of sky or foreground...doing so helps put certain subjects in proper perspective. The rule of thirds is useful but photographic "rules" are also trumped at times by artistic license.

I love this! It does look otherworldly and ancient. I love the dust reaching up into the sky and seeming to reach for the small cloud, the light and shadow giving a wave motion to the sand in the front, and the dust obscured structure in the background giving a wonderful feeling of immensity. Beautiful and evocative image!
