Description

James Marshall Hendrix(born Johnny Allen Hendrix); on November 27th, 1942 - September 18, 1970. The very first 8 trak cassette I bought as a young man was Jimi Hendrix, "Are you experienced". The bio of his brief time upon this Earth is anything but brief. Such a colorful history, I won't be able to cover it all, nor will I try. I will note that despite the influence he had on minor musicians(like me), and major musicians, he never received a Grammy Award in his lifetime...not even a nomination. Posthumously in 1992 he was awarded a Grammy for Lifetime achievement. This was to be followed by six more Grammy Awards for him and "the Jimi Hendrix Experience", between 1999 and 2009. A footnote if you will, Jimi was born in Seattle Washington, he was also laid to rest in Washington state. The first award Jimi won in 1967, Melody Maker Pop Musician of the Year. He said, "We were off somewhere on the road, and I was brushing my teeth, thinking about it. I started to cry because it meant so much to me, and I ended up washing my face three times to get off this mess of tears and toothpaste" The list of awards for his 4 year career is staggering. From the Rolling Stone "all-time" awards, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the UK Music Hall of Fame, Hollywood Walk of Fame. The National Recording Registry in the Library of Congress added, "Are you Experienced", to the "preserved for all time...(as)part of the nations audio legacy. The English Heritage blue plaque identifies his former residence at 23 Brook Street, London. It was the first that organization ever granted to a pop star. There is a lot of material on Jimi Hendrix and his influential musical style if you'd like more. Another hit of his was the song "Fire", and when I came across this image in the WIP folder it seemed appropriate(a few of the lyrics below). I have only one itching desire, Let me stand next to your fire [Let me stand next to your fire] Yeah, let me stand next to your fire [Let me stand next to your fire] Let me stand [Let me stand next to your fire] Oh, Let me stand [Let me stand next to your fire] Oh Oh, move over Rover, And let Jimi take over. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about Yeah! Get on with it baby! To the kind souls that leave their mark whether a comment, rating, or save the image as a fav, you are very much appreciated, thank you!!! Thank you all that viewed my last image below. thumb_2387800.jpg

Hmmm....got me thinking already this morning....(sips coffee)...kinda early but one has to start at some point right?...lol....Let's see....1st 8 track for me was 1975 (at the young age of 13) was "Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow"..Though having 2 older brothers that listened to anything Woodstock related Jimmy was another 8 track that was in my arsenal but at the time I was searching for my own identity and when Deep Purple split and Blackmore formed Rainbow I had established the direction in which my music was going to go....From there....well....bands like Aerosmith/Cream/Rush/Sabbath and so on began to show up in my collection.Still have a working 8 track to this day and my entire collection still works(62 different bands all together) and my 3 sons have been introduced to listening to "real" music as they grew up and have avoided what they try and pass off as music today(laughing.....)....Oh there are a few out there that are worthy but the majority sucks IMO and with also having over 100 various LP's there's no better music recorded then listening to the "pop and hiss" of them old vinyls.....Still have an ole' Reel to Reel that works...good luck finding a blank reel for recording though....(sigh).. Well I must say thanks to you I had a nice lil' flashback this morning and appreciate you posting what you did to reactivate them ole' brain cells that have collected a lil' dust over the years..lol...

Nicely done; a wonderful tie-in for Hendrix. I had "Are you Experienced" on vinyl, I think it was in 1969, but my mom threw it away because she thought it was evil. I loved it, of course. Oh well.

"My candle burns at both ends It will not last the night; But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends - It gives a lovely light." (Edna St. Vincent Millay) I thought of that quote as I looked at your image and thought of Jimi Hendrix. His was a very lovely light! Excellent image and dedication! Sorry for the delete. My spacing disappeared so I added parentheses around her name.

I didn't have 8 tracks, but in the mid sixties I did have a portable reel to reel tape recorder. I also had various vacuum tube radios since transistors had not really permeated the market yet. Later on I got a transistorized ten inch 4 track reel to reel and me and my buddies used to "Phase" music by recording the stereo image on two tracks from a record player and then recording the other two tracks while varying the speed of the record player while listening under head phones. It was a magical experience. It was necessary while doing this to engage the sound on sound recording option and use a y adapter to combine the signals. Thanks for reminding me of Jimi. I did not appreciate Jimi until after he was gone.

Great capture here and a wonderful dedication to an amazing artist. It's really too bad they waited until he was gone to give him what he deserved. Jimi was a true innovator and still stands as one of the best guitar players ever.

I had forgotten today was his birthday. I saw him in concert in San Francisco. I was on a date but could never talk to her while the music was playing. It seems the brightest lights never last long. Thanks for the memories.
