Description

Now I am taking baby steps here: I recall telling my 3D friends (kelvinhughes, drag, Maxine, Jocko, Richard and others) here on RR, that some day, when I am a big boy, I am also going to try my hand at 3D programs. I have made a few renders over the past few years but now I bit the bullet and made my first render of the desert I know, for upload. I had to start off working from memory, which caused me to redo it many times.

I would love to add a sidewinder snake, but I lack experience where to find good props, so please feel free to advise and write to me, even if it is just to tell me that my work sucks, lol.

Thank you for your comments on the previous upload:

I looked at your image, and was just about to make a comment about the superb dof, when I read what you said and realized this is a 3-D render! Wow. This is outstanding! You have an excellent future before you, my friend. :P Really fine work!

I, too, thought it was a photo until I read what you wrote. I know absolutely nothing about 3-D but I can tell you that I sure like this. I look forward to more postings like this in the future.

Piet, this is absolutely WONDERFUL!!! You've done a fabulous job with it! Talk to Kelvin about the props...he knows where to get everything for Vue. I swear I thought this was a photo till I read your note--you're really doing great! I was starting to like Vue too till I realized I had to make major expensive upgrades to the thing every year. After that got Carrara and Bryce but haven't had the time to play with them. When I do I'll be THRILLED if I can turn out anything as nice as this!

Yeah right Piet - "your work sucks" hahahahahaha It's absolutely stunning and to be honest - for this one, the side winder would've been too distracting. The focus you've brought onto the patterns in the sand is perfect :-) (For the record.... I'm seriously green with envy here.... just for the record) :-D

This is very good! I particularly like the distant terrain - very interesting. DAZ used to do a free snake I think - for Poser/Daz Studio. Don't know if they still have it.

Hi Piet, I agree with Eutopia that a model in this particular pic may have distracted from the serenity of the pic and unless you used a grey-ish texture on the snake(scorpion??) it would also bring in color to what is a two tone black and white image, that may be good or bad. You could try a distant 2d image of a camel train if you can find one or a bird in the sky if you wanted to add a 'living element', but personally I would make it peripheral so as the eye is led back to that lovely rippling sand. Ask about a snake in the modeling forum, someone there would know where to find or may make one for you. The composition is lovely and you really have an eye for detail which is not surprising given your photography gallery. If this is your first attempt I am REALLY looking forward to seeing more my friend.

I'm so glad you decided to post this .. A sidewinder would have been cool, too, but this is a beauty without it! You're in great hands here with any help you need; good luck and have FUN. I'm proud of you! :)

Maybe it sucks because it is a desert ;-) But this is a superb render and I think you did a great job and you almost fooled me, untill I read it is not a photo.

Wow, I thought this was a photo until I read your script. This is a wonderful realistic looking desert you have created with amazing sand textures. I will really have to look closely at your postings in the future if this is a sample of your work. I hope we see more. Excellent work.

I wish to walk on the sands but that would mess up the ripples! I guess the only way to get in there is to be a sidewinder. Maybe in my next life! I don't know much about Vue but from what I hear this looks "real" and that sounds fantastic!
