Description

This old fire truck sits in an enclosed glass stucture in downtown Knoxville, Tennessee. The day I visited, and drove up it was empty, so I went inside the station to inquire about, and the officer I spoke to told me with a very straight face that we sold it on e-bay, and I said you are kidding and he said “ No ma’am we got 2 million for it we couldn’t turn it down” and then he broke into a big smile and said we had it out last night for the parade and the parade got rained out so we hauled it inside care to see it? Well he continued to stand there as I took some pictures, and told me some of its history, and told me they take it out twice a year, one being for the Christmas Parade and the other for the Dogwood Festival Parade, he then gave me a busines card and said if I called ahead on those days I could see how they bring the horses in and get them ready to pull the engine out. So I hope to go see that next Christmas. This one goes out to all the FireFighters out there, I am sure we must have a few in our member list. Happy Sunday.

Thank you all for your comments and views on my last photo.

Merry-Go-Round

This is so cool Lynell and reminds me a bit of the one I saw at a museum in Oklahoma City. I for one love these and could look at them all day. Great presentation

Very cool. The next parade sounds exciting, and what a holiday card that might make, too!

Wonderful historical capture. The restoration must have cost a fortune. It would be neat to see this pulled by a team of horses.

I had a plastic model of one of these as a boy and it was definitely the most complex model I ever built bar none. So nice to see it has survived and has care.

Excellent capture Lynell, they have a similar one to this at Rochdale Fire Station, there's an open day in two weeks that I will be attending. If the weather holds out they usually fire it up for a demo, I heve one on 35mm from a few years back, hopefully I will get a digital one on the 7th Sept. Like the postwork you have done here. Superb work. Bravo!!!!!

I agree, you've done very well capturing this old work horse. It compares with finely made jewelery anytime.

What a Magnificent piece of machinary that is. Easily covertable from 2 to 4 to 8 horse power and uses no carberators nor fuel injectors, but hay and a little water!!! NIce Shootin Cowgirl!!!!!

Great image! My suggestion would be to remove the title, fade the edges with sepia tones and wash out the color so that it looks like an old photograph.
