Description
A few people were surprised that the Kiwi roundel only came into being in 1970, so I thought I'd post the earlier RNZAF roundel.
After the war and up to around 1957, the RAF type D was used, but some form of distinction was required so the Silver Fern was added to the red centre. and was used from 1957 to 1970. While this was as iconic as the Kiwi in terms of NZ symbolism, to various wags it looked like a feather from a distance, and we all know that white feathers just will not do!.. hence the Kiwi roundel was born...
